iPad officially arrives in SA; pricing is aggressive

they took so bloody long i think everyone that wanted an iPad made alternative arrangements already.

Same price as the iPhone then? Makes absolutely no sense...

Not if you consider that the iPhone is overpriced in SA and that Core have to play catch-up with a runaway iPad market...

Good on you core! Impressive!

All the stores that brought them in and tried to charge in excess of 10k are now going to make losses on them or not sell them at all!

I bought my iPad 64GB 3G in May 2010 already - still paid a lot less than what Core want

Not that amazing prices. It's $500, think of what that costs at today's exchange rate.

Motorola Xoom out soon after that!!

Xoom is $700 in the US. What do you think we'll pay?

Anyway, I think the prices aren't TOO bad, at least not for the 16GB Wifi version. I just got one when I was in Canada over December, and it worked out to R4200 ($550+tax), so this is a great price.

It's also totally worth it IMO. I absolutely love my iPad, and I'm sorry I took so long to get one.

Pointless, iPad 2 next month ;)
1) No. iPad 2 ANNOUNCEMENT is next month. The device is only coming out in April.
2) And when do you think we'll get it? Probably only next year as well.
3) So far, there's not much that's been speculated about the iPad 2 that makes it much better than the current iPad.
Dual Cameras? Who cares?
The only thing the next iPad has going for it atm is the new chip. Other than that, the current iPad is still a great device to buy.

""Core" and "competitive pricing" are mutually exclusive terms.

$500 plus tax.

For the 64GB wifi + 3G, you looking at about $900 incl (depending on the state tax) which at todays exchange rate comes to about R6 500 which is only R1099 less than cores price. Not terrible at all.

I've seen them around at various places for months already.... but nowhere near these prices. Core is to be commended.

Unfortunately the pricing is still vastly different from what you would pay in the USA.

I am however very tempted to go for one of these.

Computers, phones, cars have one thing in common: NEVER buy the launch model. Wait for the first upgrade/facelift - by then the issues have been sorted out. Wait for iPad II.

Does anyone know what happened at Core over the past year? First the prices of the IPods dropped, then the Macbook Air was brought in and was priced substantially lower than the old model but only slightly more expensive than in the US. Now the IPad is priced at a decent price. R1000 bucks more than the states is not that bad - more than I would like but really not bad at all.

If this is the start of some change then good on them.

I would say competition happened. This can only be good for the Android tablets too. I want my Asus in April for a reasonable price and this iPad prices will make sure of that.

good point.makes sense to wait for the next iPad version in the next couple of months and the prices will go down even further

Pricing

Just my rant: People stop comparing apple's to oranges. The pricing is in fact VERY good.

South Africa is part of Apple EMEA... that's Europe, Middle-East & Africa. So if you really want to compare prices, look at the Apple UK Store or Europe.... you'll find that Core's pricing is actually LESS than in the UK.

The US will always be cheaper for Apple products, always has and always will be. So stop whining about uhh its cheaper in the US *sniff* cry* blah blah.

Big up to Core for pricing it and beating what the rest of Europe/UK pay for it.

ps. No I don't work for Core..
