Cell C launches R499 handset

Very cool, just to ask before anyone posts the same ?, 200MB of data on 15MB of onboard memory, me thinks something gonna happen should you view large files :D...nevertheless worth it for the money.

Way to go CellC

Edit:
My bad, site says can use upto 8GB so one must get a MicroSD.

check out full specs over here

Cell C is killing it, this phone is cheaper than some modems. But its too much of a dumbphone for me. I wouldn't mind paying between R1000 and R1500 if they could release a phone that runs on android os

There is one. The vodafone 845 is in that price range (in fact, I read recently that it was available for R900 in some places). It is a decent Android OS smart phone and does connect to 3G @ 900MHz.

Check out the RBM HD, a high end Droid phone in an incredible bundle: R 249 a month, +200 minutes,+100 messages (SMS/MMS), +500Mb data http://www.redbullmobile.co.za/offer/

So for R1500 you've got a great phone and are up and running for 6 months... ;-)

I'm a little confused by this - I thought the RBM HD package was for 24months, not 6 months?

Max speeds are 3G...

The Vodafone android phones sells for around R1,400 - huawei manufactured and android based.

The F250 seems like the cheapest 3G enabled handset around... not bad for R499 with the included data, minutes and sms's... And a 2MP camera :D wh00t!

Really need to check your math....those are 24 month contracts...

EDIT:
Qsilver,saw your post above....
You really need to check your logic too:)

I think the "6 months" was in reference to the R1500 end of the R1000~R1500 mentioned by Ndanileka (R249pm * 6 months ~ R1500). Perhaps Lars should have quoted the post he was responding to.

EDIT:
what I actually wanted to post:

8ta's G2101 also doesn't have a camera or 3G support, nor does it come with any bundled data, SMSes or airtime, but it is currently on special for R99.

Then there isn't really any comparison, hey, is there?

Sodan, you are so right. Thanks for the hint.

I like this deal, I would say it competes with Vodacom's internet starter pack, since you can double it as a modem and connect it to your PC. Just hope it includes the cable and that it's user friendly.
Also that it's compatible with the national roaming network for those that don't have coverage yet, that's one area CellC really needs to look into. For instance my internet on edge has been rendered useless and people with the redbull offering are unable to connect to it at all.

Slightly tangential to the topic, but does anyone here know (and is willing to divulge) what the CellC HSDPA+ roll-out schedule looks like? I really want to go with Cell C, but I may be forced to "get online" with any provider ASAP (I'm supposed to do after-hours work... and my boss is not impressed :( ), which means I'll have to pay for an antenna (+installation) to boost VC/MTN signal strength since I live out in the buntus where Telkom refuses to install lines.

Oh, and no WISP covers my area (one has been promising for about 6 months now, lol).

I also get lots of practice at trying to decipher messages when only knowing every second or third syllable thanks to poor reception ;)
