The article continues to punt the benefits of capped ADSL through its ‘The pros of capped ADSL’ section in the article:

It offers you consistently fast internet speeds throughout the month
It’s affordable
It allows you to determine and stick to a monthly internet budget by deciding how much data you can afford per month. There is no risk of overspending on data.

Someone should take these goons to the ASA :p

I'm going to spare myself the usual tiring rage I would direct at these blithering idiots and actually agree with them this time.

If the cap was in the region of 250-300 gigs.

The fact that that ad suggests 3 (3???!!!) is enough, makes me wonder just what archaic world these people are desperately attempting to cling to.

LOL and my uncapped account will let me overspend on data.

They are punting a 3 gig cap? It's 2011, people use more than that on their iPhone. If they punted a 30 - 100 gig cap and said the the quality was better because the capacity was better managed maybe they would have an argument, but are you seriously punting a capped 3 gig account?

Nee man, that's just embarassing!

3GBs??? Seriously???

Back when I lived in Europe my friend complained about the 30gb cap he had imposed upon him... three years ago!

When I first got broadband in Ireland (one of the worst internet capable countries in Europe) in 2003, the cap was 8gb, and then we went over it!!!

Ever heard of youtube, Telkom?

Fascist scum. No wonder your foreign friend used up your data. He wuz like "I'm gonna download 3 songs".

Webafrica almost hit the sweetspot....150Gb is nice...but i will settle for 130GB
cancelled my uncapped 4MB and save R300pm
too bad it's not available to everyone...

My mother in law uses more than that on facebook....(3GB)

please...

Only reason people don't exceed their cap of 3gb is because they have to be careful how they use the internet. They can't do what they want when they want. For example I sent a friend of mine a youtube link, and they responded saying that they'l check it out near then end of the month because they 'don't want to run out of cap'.

I don't trust Telkom - three things would be guaranteed:
1. Their uncapped product will be more expensive than competition
2. Their speeds will be slower than competition
3. You will grow old, waiting for this product to become available

With all the vacation days, my uncapped account got suspended due to non-payment as the money was not available in my credit card. So I used my free 1GB account until the money is available in my card.
It didn't even last a single day. 1 GB gone. I didn't download anything, just pure browsing, reading, youtubing, playing online (Flash based) games on a single PC. My iPhones weren't connected, neither was any of my laptops or consoles, just one PC. There is no way that I can ever be satisfied again with anything less that 50GB in a month when using all my machines (still excluding downloading).

My mom has a 9GB account with Telkom. She regularly has to buy additional bandwidth. She just surfs and reads emails. No downloading.

Only thing about uncapped I don't like is the slower speeds, but would I swap speed for anything less than 100GB per month... no way.

Uncapped FTW!!!

What must we conclude from this information? People who continue to use Telkom for their ADSL data provision are complete and utter morons and are clueless about what the Internet really has to offer as well as the value that is available from other ISP Accounts.

Seriously... this is my deduction. If you are still using Telkom for your bandwidth... you are an idiot. There are way better options out there on the market.
Of course, if you are really an internet n00b and you really only use that little amount of data... then I suppose that is fine for you and you deserve what you get.
But you must realise that you are supporting the monopoly and making it difficult for other customers who are looking for better deals on more bandwidth.
Thanks a lot!

lol wut

That's the closest I can come to finding words for this.

Can agree that speed wise capped ADSL is faster, but for a bit of a speed cut Uncapped ADSL is still the way to go.
Even with the speed cut the demand for Uncapped ADSL is higher than capped.

TELKOM YOU ARE MORONS!!!! You are purposely trying to keep the monopoly and Shoving South Africans up the assss. You live in the 90's! Stop talking crap about capped is more afordable... All you have to do is make uncapped more affordable! Honestly how much data can u possibly download with a uncapped 384 line.... Make a "entry" level of cheap uncapped internet and then if you really must you can make the 10mb/s-20mb/s bit more expensive.. oh wait... you live in the 90's and prolly never heard of 20mb/s

I guess we south africans cant complain when people in Europe have up to 100mb/s into their homes uncapped unshaped untelkomed lines!
i hope a you suffer in your years to come.

/rant off
What a lovely day!

Armstrong explained that only 3% of their current 9GB ADSL subscribers exceed their cap, which points to the fact that their current account sizes are adequate for most of their subscribers.

Hmm, that logic is unsound, its like saying "We do not believe that buffet dinners are high in demand, because 0% of people at our restaurant ordered another slice of cake after there first slice was finished, while the buffet restaurant next door has 10x the amounts of customers,80% of them your ex-regulars."

In normal terms if your only offered a set amount you will of course be more MODEST when using , but if its virtually unlimited you will always exceed the original amount because so many more possibilities open up.

I really had to check the date, I was wondering if this was Telkom's idea of an April Fool joke?
I get better game speeds using uncapped than I ever did with telkom blended.
I can download where and when I want.
Let me put it into terms that Telkom might understand.
Their stock standard 384 account gives you 3gig or is it 5 gig i am not sure...
Playing a popular online game uses plus minus 100 to 300 meg an hour.
But let's say you only play the game for two hours a day (including weekends) that gives you over 6gig of use without even downloading email.
Now just imagine this. To buy Shogun 2 online and download it from steam is a whopping 15gig. On a 10 megabit line that is about a days worth and you are way over you cap :erm:
Yes Telkom most users never go over their cap with you because they already dumped you :D:D:D
The idiots still using your service do not know better.
Ps I just convinced an online friend to dump you yesterday after he complained that he only had 400 meg left of his cap and he was asking me how I could download a 3gig patch without worrying. I told him the joys of uncapped.;)

HAhahahhahahahaAHHAHAHAHahahhahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha! Thanks for the laugh Telkom! :D
