Hi folks

We are doing a short survey to try to understand what small and medium sized businesses want from ISPs. It will be great if you can tell us what your business expects from your ISP (hence not your residential needs, but rather your business needs).

Please post what you want from your ISP in your business here.

I look for the following from my ISP in a business environment:

--Quality connection and stability
--Good support
--Fair pricing (not looking for the cheapest, but definitely competitive)

+1 :D

I think the quality and stability are a given... I will throw in...

-- Give me what they are charging me for, at the very least nothing less. If they sold it, provide it. Finish & Klaar!
-- Honest interaction at all times, be pro-active and not defensive reactive / denialists.

The most important thing is being honest. If pirate networks are causing problems and you want to shape them, then be upfront and tell us what the limitations on certain protocols are. Isp's will find clients far more receptive if they know what limits they will be facing, far more receptive than if they lie about it.

I want to be connected 24/7 with no downtime and should I be offline I want a credit for that.

Flexibility!

Some business have very constant needs, but a lot of business' needs changes a lot! Even small companies can do double there normal bandwidth in a month with lots of Windows updates! Business grow.

Example - I work for a consulting company - the number of employees doubled in 12 months, and another office was opened. The actual people in the office depends on client projects with normally 3 tot 6 month cycles. Sometimes we have 3 employees in the office, sometimes 25.

I certainly do not want to:
1) Get the boss to pay for worst case scenarios, but we want to be able to handle it.
2) Up and downgrade contracts and get on the phone to sort it out.
3) .. etc.

I want to be able to provision extra bandwidth with a click of a mouse. In fact an ISP loses a million points each time I have to pick up the phone. I do not have time for that.

Quality connection and stability

Good support, i.e. know how long it will take to repair a fault, if unknown, explain circumstances causing fault, then we can form our own educated guess, as to how long to expect the outage to last, and don't lie to us, most of us are not totally stupid ... :)

Fair pricing (not looking for the cheapest, but definitely competitive)

Decent realistic caps, enough to see us through the odd heavy month, and decent speeds - fast enough to give the end user a great experience, i.e. very low ping/latency, and decent speeds ... not the fastest available
