Not helpful at all if they don't lower the line rentals enough that normal people can afford them.

I have the Pinky and the Brain theme song stuck in my head now

1. Line rentals way too expensive - should actually be scrapped
2. What incentive is there to having a contract - prepaid FTW
3. Customers and ex-customers shy of getting burnt by Telkom again, one bitten twice shy

And not even just the line rental. What about installing lines in these large amount of complexes that do not have?????

Say what you want about their history, but if they suddenly DO (pun intended) 'wake up' and smash all the competition into the ground with their pricing, it will only mean good things for the consumer base (i.e. each one of us), and i for one will be ready to forgive them, and sign up :)

Well, let's hope that the line rental pricing is also something they are looking to overhaul.

yeah it's certainly worth a try now, telkom /8ta have launched some good packages in the last week

Huh? did I miss something? When did Telkom start "aggressively pushing broadband with lower prices"??

They (slightly) reduced the cost of one ADSL speed, increased the others and are still sticking to their guns of forcing people to rent phone lines (in fact they've increased the price to R139 it seems). Speeds are still utterly pathetic, ADSL should start at minimum 1Mbit (calling even that broadband is a bit of a stretch), for very cheap, then maybe 8 or 10 mbit and then a 20 or 24 mbit connection.

Seems to me like they're as asleep as ever. Unless you're referring to the h8ta 10GB deal... Thats good compared to others but still has no effect on what is still the only option for a proper internet connection if you want to play games, ADSL.

Neotel needs to wake up. I'm still on their 2GB NeoGo and it is expensive compared to the specials from the other providers. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will bring good news.

They just pushing this campaign before LLU/naked DSL is unleashed (Hopefully).

Yes, I think so. I have hope for Telkom with Pinky at the wheel. Though, placing emphasis on 'waking up', they certainly still have a long way to go. But this is definitely a good start. Perhaps the Multi-Links disaster was, in some way, a good thing and forced them to re-think their old wicked ways. I guess only time will tell.

Read the other telkom news articles, I think you were in a coma for a while

Imagine if Telkom took all those billions of rands they literally threw away in Nigeria, and invested it into it's fixed line infrastructure. Big metros like JHB, CT, DBN, etc would have had fibre to the home in many areas. ADSL2+ with speeds up t0 20-24mb would have been common-place.

Eish. It just makes me depressed.

MTN and Vodacom are no better either. I wish they would all stop draining our country dry, by investing the billions they take from us consumers, into ventures in the African market and Asian market. Why must WE susbsidise the rest of Africa? We already subsidise the rest of South Africa, in the form of taxation, BEE and government corruption.

Imagine if MTN invested all of it's billions of dollars back into RSA, and not Nigeria, Congo, etc... We would have all been sitting with 100mbps FTTH connections, and Telkom would be looking like a dying WISP.

When will we fracking get some 1st world broadband??

It is actually funny (or should I say embarrassing) if your Subsidiary 8ta that you control give you a wake up call at a game you have been playing for a long time.

First they undercut you, offer much more value and basically force your hand and leave you with a lot of egg on the face.

It is ironic that SA needed someone being part of a monopoly to change the way their big bother is doing business. Well done 8ta.

I agree with Telkom throwing away their capital in Nigeria, but had MTN not invested outside South Africa, they would have not been in the position they are at the moment.

I clicked yes they are waking up, but cautiously hoping they dont just left their proverbial head look around, then turn around and carry on sleeping

It's not worth having that mentality. At least they are cutting their losses now.

I'm not sure you can call foreign investment by private companies "subsidy". Companies invest offshore for profit. They won't do it (or they won't do it for long) if it comes at the expense of opportunities back home.

Toxic its a BEE company what do you expect. They only think short term, when money is involved.
