Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Rather looks like it is your Line or DSLAM that is the problem, when I say DSLAM, it is your exchange that is oversubscribed during certain times.

Nope.

Not 10pm on a Sunday evening, and the past few days when they brought the additional capacity online to cater for the cable break, it was back to its old self.

Guess when the cable break was fixed, they no longer needed this additional capacity and terminated it.

By the way, this is what I am getting this morning during business hours.

While the additional capacity was allocated, it was running at a solid 3.2Mb/s or higher during all hours of the day.

Still looks like your DSLAM is congested to me.

How then do you explain that it wasn't congested while the cable had troubles?

Too much of a concidence as it was the only time this year it performed like it did in previous years.

Also, when doing a tracert to www.google.com, hop #2 comes back at 11ms, so no congestion there.

Most networks was affected in some way, so what could explain it, is the fact that most other people on your DSLAM wasn't doing the normal traffic levels they do when all cables are functioning, thus when the cables broke, their traffic levels went down, meaning a DSLAM not at congested level meaning you experiencing the good days for a short while.

That sounds very plausable, but why then do I get this using IS account going through the same exchange?

Dont it just boil your blood when the dslam is the first thing to get blamed by just looking at a speedtest, and with out checking the facts properly, there are alot of other reasons why his connection might be doing that and its not always the dslam. the fact that his IS account is ok does suggest thats it is WA

In that case it sounds more plausible that the backhaul connectivity on the Telkom IPC network is to blame, IS and WA's IPC links sit in 2 very different locations, so the backhaul to the 1 is probably congested while backhaul to the other one is not.

That might be, but I am getting this when using a Telkom Internet account, so don't think that is the problem.

I did a nslookup and it seems to be DNS problem and then I nslookup again and it as working.

So it seems something was wrong with the WA DNS server for 20 minutes +.

Yep my WA International went down too. I'm on Afrihost now.

Some sites were working like FB.

Seriously WA... when will your issues be resolved? This has been going on and off for months now.

ADSL - International traffic - Outage 2011/11/07 16:48:45
We are experiencing an issue affecting international traffic. Our engineers are investigating further. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

on there website.

Morning guys,

Tried to post from the MyBB Android app from home yesterday, seems like it didn't work :/
In any case, one of our International fail over links in London failed yesterday at around 17:00 causing international connectivity to be limited. The issue was resolved and all is back in working order again.
