Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hi Grim,

I cant give you exact user experience on our Home 10mbs uncapped but it can definitely do 250gb in a month as long as you push most downloads for DL+ so that you do not get throttled.

However, since you need the service during the day I would rather recommend a Business 4mbs or 10mbs account. The throttle limits per star level is much higher than an Home account, so 250gb monthly should be no problem, again as long as DL+ is used for majority of downloading of content and you will not get any shaping rules applied during the day.

I'm fine with scheduling larger downloads for DL+ hours as long as I can pull down the odd 3-6GB file during the day

You can definitely do that on a 10mbs account but if its P2P it does get shaped during the day on the Home based accounts but on Business it will run at full tilt.

Might have to give you guys a go again in November seeing as a certain other ISP can't manage to provide more than 50kB/s during the day on 10Mbps accounts

Had a phone call from tech support today thanks Justin. They really have been excellent also with a seperate issue I had earlier this week that I contacted them about.

I've upgraded my Uncapped from 1Mbps to 2Mbps last week but I still haven't seen it go past 110kbps whereas on other ISPs such as FNB Connect or Afrihost I get around 215kbps.

@WAJustinW, PM sent.

Been using WA 4mb home uncapped for just over a month now; must say I am quite happy with how it is. I've been on 2 stars for a majority of the time otherwise 3 stars - but am still able to stream netflix flawlessly (I don't use HD, so don't know about that) and my P2P works acceptably (I cap the speed down during non DL+ hours) and when I need to download a file over HTTP it's not hard throttled like it is on AH.

All in all quite happy with WA - big up.

I still am a huge fan of AH due to their customer service and general attitude compared to other ISP's - which I think WA and most of the other ISP's should follow; but just don't like the forced throttling :-)

Any plans on dropping uncapped prices with the new Telkom line rental charges?

Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoying the account.

We are reviewing our offerings and will notify our customers as soon as things have been finalised.

Are there any problems you are aware of?

Been unable to connect since 10am this morning. Just get a no response error on the router. ADSL line is up.

Don't have a different ISP account to test if it is limited to Web Africa.

Hi APoc184,

Are you still having issues at the moment?

Hi Justin. I haven't checked again since yesterday and not at home now.

I heard the iPad going crazy with notifications late last night. So chances are that it connected successfully somewhere.

Telkom Free Upgrade

Hello, I have my land line and ADSL with Telkom who shortly will be upgrading the line speed from 1 MB to 2 MB for free. Has WA made any decision yet to accommodate this free upgrade. Thanks.

The line speeds will be automatically be upgraded at no charge but it will be up to our customers if they would want to upgrade the data to match the line speeds. As for any price changes our team are still looking at our offerings.

Hello

I am getting warnings from Webafrica that I am using to much data etc etc , everytime I ask how much data is to much all I get is a vague answer we can not tell you etc etc , then they send you to their website with the star rating once again which is useless cause it does not tell one how much data from 5 stars to 4 stars etc only average etc etc but with no data whatsoever so that one knows what the average user is doing per day per month per week etc ??? Is there any of the Uncapped Isp's that does tell one you can download say 5 gb a day or 50 gb a week etc without some vague answer ???

What irritates me about wa is that the uncapped account is not really uncapped.I downloaded a measly 25gb last month which is a small amount from what i have read on forums yet i spent most of my time on 3 stars with continual bad web access.Web africa has poor service and support but unfortunately they are the cheapest for my 2mb account at R239/mnth.I think most other isp's are like R299.
Also what sucks about wa is that you have to give a whole calendar months notice! Why cant they have instanst cancellation like some other isp's?

IS star system is the worst in the market ( WA are IS resellers) . Never touch IS and their resellers .
