Just wondering if there are any others on MyBB that also enjoy running? I started at the beginning of the year and tried to improve my performance since then. Would be nice to see what personal best's you achieved, could be a good motivator to go faster :D

So far I have only done 5k, 10k and half marathon races :
5km : 23:11
10km : 49:11
21.1km : 1:51:11

Impressive! That is some serious endurance running you were doing. Sub 90 half marathon is something I can only dream about...

Only done the 2 Oceans Half once, this year, and did 2:09. Wanted sub 2, so I'll try again next year :)

I started the couch 2 5k program a couple of weeks ago, but hurt my back in the 1st week. :(

Maybe start smaller. I started with walking 2.5km a day and progressed from there. My wife is currently doing 5k in about 48 minutes, so good luck to you - once you get to a point where there is no more pain you'll find yourself dreaming of running.

Keep in mind that some injuries are because you are going to fast, too hard while other are a result of worn out shoes. In my case I have recently started to get shin splints again because the Nike Pegasus 28s I got in April have now done close to 700km. Will be getting a new pair of Asics Gel-Nimbus 13s soon which should solve the problem.

You also need to ensure that the shoes you run with provide the right support for your foot action, some people tend to over-pronate and other under-pronate. If your shoe does not cater for that and provide the right support for it you will injure yourself.

I'm not anything close to a runner. My shins normally swell up and I lose all feeling in my feet. :/

However, recenly I have started jogging at gym again and I'm averaging 4 nights a week of warming up with 20m jog (max allowed time) where I [walk 1min @ 6km/h, jog 4min @ 10km/h] x4 ... according to the trip monitor this gets me just over the 3km mark after 20mins, which is nothing to be proud of, but at least it's a start.

My best was at school - 6km in 21mins off road.

I also got shin splints. Best way to fix them was get soles molded to your feet! Seriously...it worked. I went to a biokinetist (sp?) and they sorted out my legs. Made me run on a treadmill, video's my feet landing and corrected them to land perfectly (no wobbling about, straight down). Also taught me to warm up properly :p

I must get back into running - damn!

Oi! No talking about school days, that's cheating! :p

Back then I still used to do pole-vaulting and I ran on a miniature arc-reactor implanted in my chest. Energy was in abundance...these days I get tired just writing this sentence. :o

Lol, but its still my PB! Only about 10years ago :p

Paarl rock looked super slippery from the N1 on Friday, hope it dried up a bit by the weekend else you would have had one slippin' good time :p

Good news! Got me a pair of these babies at Sportsmans Wharehouse in Canal Walk tonight :

Will give them a gentle maiden run tomorrow evening to see how they compared to my old faithful Nike Pegasus 28s.

Nope, not this time round, just called them up and went to buy the shoes. I know my foot is neutral and currently I am wearing the new ones at work, they feel great. If the weather clears after work I'll do a quick 10k to see how they behave.

You're not joking about being a serious sprinter - excellent times you got there

Got a new PB on a half marathon this weekend, my next goal will be much hard, a sub 90.
But for now : 21.1km : 1:44:48

Thank you Rouxenator. Distancing running is too much for me. I would die after 800m. Btw I hope you watching World athletics championships on SS7 some good times for long distance runners.

Great to have a running thread.

I did my first marathon in 1977 and still going sub 3, coming back for Comrades next year (silver dreams). Nowadays also RD of major race and club pres etc.

Happy to help out with any advice ...if people think its worth anything.

cheers

100m: 12.5s (std 9)
400m: 53.2s (std 9)

Did buggerall in matric and thereafter.
