List of congested exchanges?

did you manage to get an update techead? the situation still seems unchanged at present

You can add Richmond NTL exchange to this list, a constant 4% packet loss and latency of over 200ms, speeds are low on 4meg lines now, can only get 2mbps lately.....

while packet loss and high local latency can suggest a congestion issue, your sync speed has nothing to do with that. its quite possible that you are looking at another issue here, which is effecting your line. maybe give them a call and get a tech to come and test your line

Well I am on the LINDEN (RLDN) Exchange and get over 400ms latency and no less than 20 jitter.
I use mweb, axxes and FNB unshaped. All have the same result.
I informed telkom that I have this problem only during peak hours from 5pm to 12pm and am obviously on a congested exchange.
I then keep receiving sms's that they looked at my connection and found nothing wrong with it.
"Best effort policy" so its not something they care about!!!

I have no idea if they going to be fixing this, upgrading the exchange or moving ppl to other less congested exchanges. Anyone have any info?

Thanks

Im on the same exchange as you. Ive also logged quite a few faults just to receive a sms a day or 2 later saying the same.
So my vote is prob with your statement bout them just not give a F.

Anything you can do to help TH?
Thanks!

gents, my primary focus is on Bellville North atm

I have confirmation that the switch-over will happen THIS WEEKEND

Lets hope we have some happy people come Monday morning ;)

I will have a look into LINDEN (RLDN)

Thanks for the feedback Techead... will keep an eye on it over the weekend, and give you feedback on Monday.

Can I ask that everyone that is on BELLVILLE NORTH (WBLX03)

To please install pingplotter and leave it running over the entire weekend

Please keep pinging 196.2.63.110 and 212.58.246.95 with pings on interval of 5 sec

thanks :)

Pingplotter fired up and running this side... Even at this time of the morning I am seeing 500ms just to get through the exchange... and this is a quiet time of the day. Lets hope those greedy oinkers at telkom pull their fingers out and do something about this crap exchange this weekend...

This morning is about the worst I've seen it yet, averaging about 800ms. Up till now it's mostly been a latency issue, but even bandwidth is congested now, barely able to get 30kb/s on a 4mb line.

Same here... its on the edge of croaking to a miserable death. I am SSH'ing into my servers at work hosted locally in CT and it feels like I am working on a machine in Zimbabwe via satelite links... literally 2 seconds delay between keystrokes.

used to be on that exchange two weeks ago, then I cancelled my adsl, Im now on a brackenfell exchange enjoying a lovely 10ms ping to local servers, and Im still in the same house. :)

How do you fix it? "Simple" Get Metro Ethernet up and running, that's about 10gbit. But that is a long term project, and obviously takes a while to get done. It IS in the pipeline though, and has been flagged.

Hi Techead,

do you perhaps know how far down this line this is? I would love to have 10mbit/sec at home. At least my line stats are more than good enough for 10mbit/sec as well as I am on a DSLAM that syncs with ADSL2+ thus I know the MetroE link is the last requirement for 10mbit/sec.

Sorry what exchange are you on?
