List of congested exchanges?

Guys some1 just told me that there is going to be a new bill coming out in the next few months thats going to share the exchanges amongst the isp's so Telkom wont have monopoly anymore and thats why Telkom are no longer upgrading or fixing exchanges. Is this true?

@ Techead - I have the logs for the whole weekend, around 20 meg... I can put them on a webserver for your somewhere if you need them... This morning it was looking perfect - although its a very quiet time to give accurate feedback.

Will keep an eye on it tonight since thats when traffic hits the exchange, then we can see if telkom just fed us some B$ information to keep you quiet. Normally around 6 / 7 PM the crap will hit the fan... looking at Zoidberg's image, I can confirm mine was also this morning on around 5 ms through the exchange which is damn good... Holding thumbs for tonight...

if you zip the file, how big is it? thanks for doing that. I appreciate it. You dont see any major outage the entire weekend?

I have gotten in touch with him to get some feedback on how things went this weekend, or if it even happened at all... I have a bad feeling though.

I dont think they gonna feed me BS. They have no reason to really... I have built up quite a good relationship with the one oke, and he has been honest and upfront the entire time.

Lets see what he has to say

first I have heard of it. if you dont have a credible source, I would take it with a pinch of salt...
 
@ techead - Uploaded the logs to a Webserver for you... PM'd you the link to pull the file. I did check my adsl line from time to time over the weekend to see if there was any outages / work done on our exchange... I couldnt see anything, unless it was done early hours of morning / midnight periods.

Shout if you need anything else.

My exchange TED03 now averages between 1000 and 1500 ms :( lol I'm competing now with satellite latency

No, most definitely not true.
 
Holy crap... just after 6 PM as people get home and fire up their ADSL connections ... Bam... Bellville North in its normal fashion displays a mindblowing 1500 ms just to get to my ISP...

Just after 5 it was around 7ms...

I think my exchange is becoming congested? Since Sunday I am syncing at the full 4mb and my Router Stats:

Line Attenuation 16.5 db 6.4 db (down/up)
Noise Margin 24.5 db 23.8 db (down/up)

So I am almost on the exchange, yet I get a 300-500ms ping to www.mweb.co.za and a download when lucky at 2mb

I'm busy trying to reset the port at the exchange but getting no where on the phone (10210) Are there any other numbers to try. What times are they open?

My exchange is Eastleigh by the way.

Any tips?

I can confirm that I am also having the same issue. Also on TEDO3 exchange and latency was constant 1100ms + over the weekend. Now doing about 880 ms to ISP DNS servers.

Hi Freak_c ,
Im on the same exchange, very poor performance since friday evening :(
latency is also up above 500ms, it was fine for half an hour this monday morning before 7am.
also good snr and line att.

will give u a shout when i have news / improvements.

*edit : tuesday morning 06h40 and latency is also fine :( will have to run something through the night with time logging to see when it clears up and starts acting up exactly

Thanks vaalpens, I noticed it on Sunday afternoon. Tested it this morning before 7am and got a ping of 32ms, download speed of 3.5mbs and an upload speed of 435kb/s.

Last night I even tested it with a different router as my current router is doing the nasty habit of resetting to the factory defaults by itself, randomly. I will have to see when i get home and try phone telkom to reset the port. Will keep you posted as well.

Let me know if you hear anything.
 
UPDATE: just got off the line with someone at telkom (who didn't sound happy) after stating that the latency is very high on my line making downloading a pain, even for local stuff, she asked what my address is, and after I told her she said that there is problem at the Eastleigh exchange that started on the weekend some time.

A "Network Fault" there and they are working on saying that should be fixed during the course of the week. I'm hesitant to believe her, but what can you do?

I will try phone again tomorrow and see what they say. Problem is I'm off to CT for a week and will only get back in a weeks time.

Sidenote: My wife is at home all day and she said that the line has been "normal" (general browsing and downloading of documents) but just after 5 it got a lot slower.
