I have been using a Netgear Modem for a while now, and suprisingly its been 'ok'.

I recently bought a D-Link DSL-2500U Router on my second line, and i havnt had much luck getting it to work properly. I suspect my Line is at fault. check this out...

What I dont understand is that the DSL MODE is different between the lines and the SNR Margin is also different. And these lines go the the same exchange (says the telkom techie).

Telkom says the line is fine.

Afrihost says its my modem settings (PPPoE Account).

But the modem shows these differences, who do you think is at fault?

why are you connecting at 10mbps on that one line with G.DMT ??

8mbps is max for this standard, rather change it to ADSL2+

yes they both terminate at that exchange, but they could be (and most likely are) using different routes. this would account for the different SNR values (though the different standard would also effect this)

Have you swopped the modems to see if it is still the same ???

The ADSL Mode was set to auto.

I did try another modem, same fault.

Yes, thats my tel number :)

SOLUTION !!!

NOTE that at HOP #2, the latency goes up, this means the Exchange (ie: the DSLAM is congested). If indeed you have symptoms like that. Log a fault with TELKOM and ask them change the line's DSLAM. This can be changed quite quickly, within an hour during office hours.

I had Telkom absolutely insisting this was an ISP problem the other day.

HERE IS MY RESULT: now im happy
