The problem with 8ta seems to be there national 8ta to telkom gateway: wbs-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za (IP address varies)

Pings rise daily after 6pm (going from <100ms to >700ms) corresponding to the time most people come home from work and would use their 8ta internet connections.

This makes me suspect that perhaps 8ta has under-invested in their internet access/backbone point they rent from telkom.

Quite surprising if this is true. .. (But perhaps we should not be surprised?)

Spot on to start but the bolded part is off the mark. More like someone made a "slight mistake" and it is about to be reversed.

Friend of a friend of a friend.... ze networking! Apparently they were busy with something that did not work and have been told by the big cheeses to stop and reset. Big up to 8ta rep from what I have been told.

Thanks for the info mate, I'm hoping 8ta themselves also deliver a statement after all is fixed. If you didn't mention this now, we wouldn't even have known if they are aware of the problem.. Any time frame? Sorry I know you only got it 3rd or 4th hand info, but we have been starved of any updates from them so its nice to hear something positive for a change.

Dunno but I'm sure the 8ta rep will be here soon to tell us.

Still 700ms after work hours here. Works well before that though. Will see at a later stage, hopefully they will sort it out soonish.

Really hoping that source is correct :) i miss my old 8ta.

Local still okay 70ms, but international now at 1000ms. I guess we're not quite there yet.

Mine seems to have come right fairly early tonight, it's a welcome change.
I'll have to see if holds up for the rest of the evening.

Best news I've heard this, well year! (apart from my holiday starting the 15th!)

Just a pity that the 8ta rep fell silent - but if that means he/she was kicking the techs into fixing the problem then I'll enjoy the silence!
