BlackBerry is cool among the youth

Most likely the price of the product that appeals amongst the youth. Since they own one, it surly must be "the bomb" right?

BB voted as the coolest gadget, coolest cell phone, etc. Ai tog man, the youth are more lost than I thought!

Haha - very much so... They should conduct the survey in 6 months again and see how quickly things are changing for BB...
Its strange how BB has gone from an Enterprise device to a cheaper consumer lifestyle tool...

That's all they can afford, take away bis and let me know if they still think it's cool...

The only thing that makes it "cool" is the BIS.

Oh, and the price of the 8520.

Pretty much.

Make the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy cheaper and with free messaging and internetz, then see BB sales/usage plummet.

The more people try to dismiss BlackBerry the more the results supports the brand/product. If the respondents state that BB is coolest surely it's not because it's cheap/affordable. Cool does not include cheap/affordable.

How many more of these BB + youth related articles do we have to endure?

Mxit is cool among the youth and Bieber is cool among prepubescent girls, but that doesn't really say much.

That would depend on how word is defined. If "cool" is defined as "my friends have one, so I also need one", then your argument doesn't hold because I'm pretty sure that they have one purely on the basis of cost.

Blackberry rated the coolest "broadband?" Top brand in the "county?" Eish...does no one proof-read articles before posting them?

I wonder if BMW and Nike is also so cool because their products are cheap and all the friends have it?

Guys, just give credit where it is due. Someone is doing something very right as far as BB goes in SA.

We're referring specifically to mobile devices here, which due to it being within budget, allows them to exercise bias.

What about these gems:
Domestic Airline: SAA (South African Airways)
Hotel Group: Protea Hotels
Daily Newspaper: Daily Sun
Telecoms Provider: Vodacom

not really.

this is a third world country, and that is where they are winning. cost drives everything. this isnt something magical that they are doing right, its old hat that is only coming into play now in South Africa. its old tricks in a new country that is fooling a new group of people. a short term ploy to bring in $$ to a dying breed.

reminiscent of RIM if you look back on how they refused to evolve with the times (refusal to incorporate with MS exchange server, thereby forcing BES hardware/software is a prime example here), and rather just employed the same strategy's in different countries. sad really, coz they could.. should have been so much more. its a phase, it will pass once data becomes affordable. Once you move away from a Blackberry (screen and keyboard type) to a real phone, you wont ever look back.

my fiance is(was) a blackberry fanatic. I told her that she had rocks in her head about 12 months ago. I told her that BBM wont last forever and that sacrificing the user experience of a real phone for BBM was folly. I now scroll through my phone book without ONE person not having whatsapp installed. BBM is dying slowly, and with it RIM. (just google the financial mess they in, they done)

she now owns an android device, bought at her OWN request.

"cant believe I even bothered with a Blackberry"

...
