I have googled the proplem and it seems that we must wait for Vodacom to fix the problem.
I want to use my new ipad as a wifi hotspot at work. Does anybody know when this be available for us. Using topup apn is internet and cannot change to iphone.vodacom.za

Ahh another solution is to get a Huawei E586 mobile hotspot where you can share your data with your phone, ipad, etc
but a little inconvenient but a good solution.rather than jailbreak it

Or a cheapo android phone...

I pad is really not the best for apps android does so much more.

If you don't want to jailbreak, try this:
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/03/ho...-jailbreaking/

I haven't tried this myself as I have support call into Vodacom ADS about this issue. As usual Vodacom blame Apple and the iStore I visited blame Vodacom.

From what I have seen on the 'net, the carrier needs to release an update from 12.0 to 12.1 to enable the personal hotspot as iPhone and iPad hotspots are treated differently. The original iPad and the iPad2 never had this feature so the carriers didn't need to worry about supporting it, but now they do.

Specifically this link below mentions this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574#

And a quote from there is:
"To use this feature, your wireless carrier must offer Personal Hotspot and your devices must meet certain system requirements."

Hope to have this resolved soon.

Still waiting to hear from vodacom.....

Apple have not made the updated settings available to us yet. While they have confirmed we'll get them, we're not in the wave of operators who just got them recently and will have to wait to get a date from Apple.

In other words, just like you guys we're waiting with baited breath.....

funny how every "apple fan" insists u need to hack/jippo it before it will be 'great'... yet 'apple makes such great stuff' according to them, as long as u modify it... :erm:
I don't see the need to jailbreak mine personally.

I have to aggree with you. But the new iPad is great. Apps are to big and the free ones are cr@p.
By what measure?
Flipboard - free
Zite - free
XBMC - free
And then just looking at some of the apps I also available for free recently like Snapseed and StarTrackerHD to name but a few.
and you have to lie to download from US site.
who.cares?
