omg... what's happening??? major issues to load speedtest, this site, facebook....

Same thing is happening to my webafrica account. Jumping between my afrihost and webafrica accounts they both seem to be experience the same erratic performance with some sites not loading one minute and then loading fine the next.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the whole ADSL network in the cape town region.
I just logged into WebAfrica, and FNB and also there latency is thru the roof.

Since this so call new network roll out of Telkom and making there capped clients soft capped there has been issue.

It looks like the Telkom/SIAX infrastructure cannot handle the loads.

Maybe something is miss configure, maybe hardware failures, bad routings, infrastructure overload.

It seems the problem is just escalating exponentially

Correct, it is like somewhere on the ADSL infrastructure in the Cape Town region there is a massively huge balls-up.
Hardware failure, bad routing or infrastructure overloads.

I must concur I think Telkom has screwed something up in CPT. My office DSL line used to be able to sync @ 8mbit no problems but now anything above 5024 and there are major issues.

My home exchange was acting up last weekend as mentioned before.

Latency on AH and WA the past few days has been up and down.

That said, I'm running on WA uncapped at the moment (got tired of AH's CPT issues) and all is well. Got two uncapped accounts for the month of March so I'll see which is more stable, AH or WA (IS); OW is good too but I just cant deal with an ISP that has a non-functional stats and billing section on their clients account portal.

@Naks, only if your line is with Afrihost (Bundle option data+line) can you do a port reset via the app or controlpanel on the site. :p

Good to hear AfriMan, this means those of us who are waiting for the DBN IPC to go live are in for a longer wait ?

Could not stream BBC shows lastnight hence the question.

Telkom ran into some issues, though I don't know the nature. Now that Cape Town is purring, I'll spend some more time getting info and hopefully a revised ETA.

It might be that your exchange is congested or oversubscribed. What area are you in?

Seriously though, after the issues with the IPC were ironed out earlier (as per AH tweet to me) my latency was 167ms and D/L was 1,97MB (not bad considering never got over 1Mb normally)... Now the hamster left it's wheel, lit a spliff and hasn't been seen since ..

Afriman, are you sure that the purring you hear isn't snoring???
Ian

Our own testing, on a normal 4Mbps line we've setup in Cape Town, shows consistent speeds and pings.

Considering that there were multiple complaints since the IPC went live on the 25th, it would seem that only a handful of Cape Town clients are now having issues and we need to troubleshoot those to eliminate all other possibilities.
