Google Nexus 7 for South Africa unclear

No sure why the Cell companies would distribute the device:
  • It's got no Cellular radio (WiFi only)
  • Google's distribution model for the Nexus 7 is direct
Still, I would love to have one at $199/$249.
 
Problem is Google Play, we dont get full access to music and videos making the nexus useless for Google to sell here.

yeah but importing it and all the shipping costs and taxes doesn't help much :) I've got a MyUS account that I can volunteer for those keen on getting the tablet. PM if you'd like :)

Na not really. For Google maybe. But with a VPN (no root needed) its full access here too. We've got other issues like bad internet connections!

we saved about 1k buying a kindle from amazon compared to local. i'd buy a nexus 7 from a buddy in a fancy country if my wife allowed me. and even if it had postage an tax and postage tax and tax tax and import tax, it would still be cheaper.

Does the $199 price include tax? You added tax and got the same value.

Shipito USPS Quote+Insurance = $69.75
Grand Total = $281.22 = R2 295.01 *using xe currency app*

Landed invoice value for import calculation($199) = R1 624.02 *using xe currency app*
Custom duty = R250.43 *using dutycalculator android app*

Total Landed costs = R2 545.44???
