Vodacom to launch LTE in 2012: CEO

Imagine they implement proper LTE/4G whatever and it actually becomes readily available in metropolitans like JHB/PTA/CPT :

Wireless cellular data connections outperform the fastest available residential wired connection from telkom, and if it's proper 4G it should be by quite a margin.

LTE is nice, but it is sad that it is going to cost so much. I'm hoping telkom upgrades 384kbps to 1mbps on October, preferably early October 2012.

Well by the time they implement it there wont be many people left on VC's network, so in that aspect it could be a clever move if you're after a really fast connection.

The question is if one has enough money-in-the-bank to cover those typically astronomical vodacom cellphone bills.
 
So what does LTE mean? Faster data connections? Do we really need faster data connections? I don't know what my phone uses, but I can stream youtube videos without buffering. I don't really need more on a phone. More is always better, but more important is the cost of data. It doesn't help me that I can download a lot in a short time but it's going to cost me a fortune to do so. Give us better data prices.

In the other article he said no uncapped 'cos of greedy abusers - who in heavens name is going to use LTE at those prices.
 
Not many people in SA knows what LTE stands for and what speeds Vodacom are hence aiming for. Looks like another marketing gimmick, something they are good at.

I'll be fine with any connection at 10mbps. All the 3G operators already have this in most areas, including Vodacom. Vodacom can go ahead and upgrade their network but price is king once the speed and quality is sufficient and it has been so for a few years. I've been paying R199 for 10GB per month from 8ta for a year now. I always get 5mbps+, have never had a single disconnect and have always had great reception. So 8ta wins for price, speed and quality for me. No need to spend more to test Vodacoms network.
 
So Cool, Vodascum will launch LTE.

Just something new to shaft their customers with. Imaginge the price. We have a new CEO to pay guys so come on, let give him our Year End Bonuses... lol

I will rather use a booster and stick with Cell C. The knowledgable has woken up, so shove ur LTE, Vodascum. I had enough of your Bovine Scatology.

Slowly my contracts are expiring.... 2 down, 4 to go.

LTE will be cheaper you dimwits.
It should also be the last of the investments in infrastructure. So data costs will be very very cheap.... in 2014.
But then every one will have cheap data, those investing in LTE today will have the upper hand by 2014.
 
Waahahahaha.. you think Vodacon will make data cheaper?!?!

They're already doing the PR to make people believe the assraping they're getting is good value for money.
