Hi, i know there are a few users on here who are affected and i just thought i'd start a thread so we can discuss it here instead of pm'ing each other. Also wanted to find out if any of you are getting a lot of packet loss lately, which i never had before until a few days ago. I could handle the rubbish latency because at least i could browse the web but with this packet loss pages hardly load. Also i am still waiting for telkom to bring a box to replace the plastic packet covering our line on the pole, so i'm not sure if the packet loss is from that or the exchange :(. Thanks

Bumping for any info. Latency is now bad from 3pm - 12pm.

Business line help http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/images/icons/icon8.png

We are also on the La Lucia exchange, yesterday morning our adsl suddenly started dropping and our telephone line was crackling alot. Have a 4mb line.

I see our line attenuation has shot to 57. Was at 55 the last few months used to be in the 40s.

At wits end can't use the internet properly and telephone quality is terrible. Technician came here and at first he tried to say the problem was with mweb  but after a phone calls they have agreed it is the exchange.

My noise margin has been jumping all over the place, usually when internet is stable it's around 21.5, this morning it was at 12 and nothing was working, it came right at about 1pm but 4pm the latency is back to 600ms, by 8pm it will be around 1400ms and internet will be almost unusable. My attenuation never changes. This really is ridiculous. Been Waiting a month for a technician to come so i can ask about the exchange and bring a box for our pole :(

I was thinking of moving our line to mweb or afrihost hoping maybe they could do somehting about it, is your line with telkom or mweb? All i want to know is if anything is being done, if not i can then think about going wireless.

BUMP, 4 months and counting. Any1 know if they really are upgrading in march?

I wouldn't know but is it possible that La Lucia & Umhlanga are on the same exchange, so too much congestion ?
With all the businesses in these areas nowdays, and an extensive residential area to cover ...

BUMP because **** this ****, doesn't matter if u complain to icasa, hellopeter, ask technicians to check **** out, same ****ing crap for 6 months and nothing has been done. Surely someone here knows wtf is wrong with the la lucia exchange, because telkom deny everything. I've sent tracert's and you don't hear anything else.

What exchange are you connected to?

We are having problems on the La Lucia exchange which is next to the La Lucia mall.

+1000 latency at night with almost no down throughput.
According to Telkom there is no problem at all.

Im on 031572 - im on umhlanga rocks drive in a complex near somerset park and the executive. Im on the La Lucia exchange as far as im aware.

I am on the La Lucia Exchange, 031 572. Speed has dropped from 3.5mbps to 1.8mbps today.

Also I see the ADSL checker now says that the max speed available is 10mbps. Not sure if this is coincidence or what. It has been 4mbps when ever I have checked in the past.

Hmm, so both of you aren't having any issues? Yea i also checked the speedchecker which is now 10mbps. This is so bloody irritating, some people aren't affected and some are. We must all be on different DSLAMS. How's your latency at around 6pm everyday Mr Feesh?

false alarm on the slow speeds, seems my brother was downloading alot. Getting 3.2mbps download with a 44ms ping, mweb uncapped btw

Superspeed was kind enough to query uniweb for me and had this to say:

Possible Product Offering 2048 kbps The network in your area supports a possible speed of up to 2048 kbps.
Maximum Speed Supported 4096 kbps
Exchange upgrade date Not yet specified

From what i can see here you are on a 2Mbps line and an old exchange. You are on a heavily congested exchange in Durban which means you will probably upgraded soon. There is no date on it yet but that doesn't mean much. Telkom is VERY bad with admin work. You don't have an IMAX exchange with ADSL2+ yet which means your odds of getting an upgrade is very good in the near future.

Thanks, spoke to telkom this morning, mixed response as usual. Some say my exchange doesn't support it. Some say it does.
Then got put through to some one who said my exchange does support 10mb but my port on the DSLAM has not been upgraded as yet.

My adsl line/main home line has been in for 10 years, 2 years ago we put in another line for work, no adsl on it, but they said if I were to apply for 10mb on that line I could get it.

Thanks for that useful in Ice2Cool... That is the most factual info I have seen in a long while.
I am also on 031572xxxx, so the logic applies just as well.
I have actually started considering moving back to Durban North from a strategic long-term connectivity point of view.
Also, I have now focused my attention on buying property in that area as well for business premises.

Thanks again. It is appreciated
