Boost ADSL on-demand with Turbo Charge from Afrihost

No surprise that it's Afrihost doing this. No one else seems concerned with adding value to their products.

On a typical 10meg line, you'd be able to pull around 3.6GB of data in an hour (assuming 1MB/s throughput). That means you will effectively be paying ~R8 per GB for that hour.

However, since you've already paid for your uncapped part, the R8 per GB is false. If you can manage to download, say half of that (1.8GB) without the 'turbo' add on, you will effectively be paying ~R16 per GB for the 'turbo' add-on. Obviously the better your non turbo'd performance, the less effective (and more expensive) the turbo add-on becomes.

On a typical 1meg line:
- 360MB per hour
- R29 gets you 8 hours of Turbo
- so thats R29 / (360*8)...
- ~R10 per GB...or probably more realistic ~R20 per gb.

Worth it ?
I dont think so. Nice try though.

No worth it, waste of cash. The people supporting it here are probably Afrihost employees.

Rather move to an ISP that is better.

Um you do get 5 free sessions per month... Surely that's worth something?

Its products like these that just overcomplicate the network.

Except you're forgetting the most important part - no one will be buying more boosts each month. Just use the free ones for important downloads.

Or maybe I like Afrihost because my Afrihost business account is exceptional value for money, is accompanied by the best clientzone in the industry by miles and works brilliantly?

So you pay for an uncapped account and then you pay a little extra to use the uncapped account you've already paid for like an uncapped account.

Ok then.

It's all going to depend on the performance outside of the boot periods. If performance is great then the addition of five free boosts is a nice add on, but if it leads afrihost to degrade performance in the hope that people will buy boosts it's a terrible idea.

Only time will tell.

Surely HTTP is not shaped???

nice idea but make it free...not 5 and then you pay....give that option once a day....for torrent etc...

But HTTP should be full speed all the time!

Then everyone would run all their traffic through http... It doesn't cost much to use a torrent-to-http service.

Hello friends

Since most cant seem to read:

It includes 5 free sessions each month.

Should you still not understand this, feel free to pm me.

Not quite, nice try though.
