The Financial Times is reporting that Microsoft plans to "reverse course over key elements of its Windows 8 operating system" when Windows Blue, a so-called iterative update, rolls out later this year.
In an interview, Tammy Reller, head of marketing and finance for the Windows business, apparently told the newspaper that some of the most fundamental aspects of Windows 8 will be changed in the updated version of the OS. Sadly, she refused to go into detail about exactly what the changes might be. She did, however, admit that, during the development of Windows 8, "the learning curve is definitely real".
The Financial Times claims this is "one of the most prominent admissions of failure for a new mass-market consumer product since Coca-Cola’s New Coke fiasco nearly 30 years ago".
Arguably, Windows 8's reception has been a mixed bag. It's fresh, contemporary design has earned it plenty of admirers, but many users have typically reported that they've found it confusing. Perhaps the tweaks that Reller alludes to will place it in the middle ground.
