Telkom Direct stores are an Epic Fail

I wonder why I put my foot in the door , so they could not close it, even the security were getting afraid of me.
The manager promise all and I still receive zero.

Call center read from a screen they have No idea what the problem is then they just cut you off when you get a bit upset b bunch of plonkers they are i say.

In the Western Cape, I was told the same thing at Stadium on Main so I can vouch for this.

Indeed, heard the same thing in Stadium on Main. Telkom Direct do not answer their phone while there is a customer in the store.

I must admit that face to face Tygervalley is decent. I did once mentioned to them that they are an island of competence in a sea of incompetence. The 2 ladies was not to sure how to react.

They do seem to know what is going on, the couple of times I have been there.

Still, I don't understand why they do not list their landline number. I see on Tygervalley's website they list 10219 as the customer care line. I would prefer speaking to someone at the store there than to try and reach someone at the Telkom call center who I often find struggles to pronounce their own name.

I was told about 3 years ago at one of the Direct stores in PE that they wouldn't give me a number to call them on.
Think it's company policy, especially judging from the forum feedback.

Therefore, you probably wasted a lot of unnecessary time in test-phoning various stores in order to do this article.

I have been told by managers in three Telkom Direct stores (Fourways, Clearwater and Centurion) that they have a policy not to answer the phone. I just wanted to call to hear what time they were open till with the first store and a few months later I wanted to know whether they have the Samsung SGSII in stock.

This is after all probably the only telecommunications company in the world that withholds the telephone numbers of it's customer service centres - from it's customers.
To find out if a telephone product is in stock, they expect you to drive from store to store.

I can totally relate to this. I recently needed to do a Sim Swop and after phoning every single outlet in Gauteng, I could not get hold of a single one of them. I then decided to go to the store in Fourways where I was assisted by a very unfriendly lady that made me feel like I was interrupting something a lot more important. What a bad taste in the mouth...

I then witnessed an American (Judging by her accent) lady asking to buy a cheap, cash phone for her use while visiting the country, only to be told by the staff member assisting me that they do not sell cash phones and that she must go to the MTN across the hall in the rudest of manner and not even looking up to make eye contact...

To the Telkom/8TA Operations Manager, you need to sort your staff out before they chase all of your current and potential customers away!

Let them chase the customers away, telkom doesnt need more money

Rubbish, why is the numbers made public then?

Two years ago when I applied for a 8ta contract at Telkom direct/8ta in Stellenbosch there also wasn't a number I could call them on. After waiting a week to hear about approval I went back to the store. They couldn't find my application

So they wanted me to apply again. :erm:
I promptly left the store...

Another week later they called me to "come and collect". This time they forgot to block their number, so this way I got their landline number. But I told them I wasn't interested anymore and hung up on them.

A month later I got my first bill...Had to put up a fight to get it reversed/cancelled. I dug up every email address of Telkom and 8ta I could find. Eventually someone at the Telkom Mobile Commercial Back Office helped me.

Let me know if you need their contact details ;)

This reminds me of my time with Lord of the rings online, I tried the demo game and really enjoyed it - so I went to buy the game at their online store... only I couldnt find copy to buy and emailing their support didnt help either.
So I went across to Blizzards website and in 2 minutes I had purchased World of warcraft and was busy downloading the game.

The point is that one company didnt want to take my money and the other was more than willing to and made it easy to spend it, I ended up spending quite a decent amount of money over the next few years with them, where are the lotro store lost all of it because it was impossible to actually get them to take my money.

I just love to hear about 8Ta fails! These bastards will never see me again. I get much better service from my MTN store, thanks

Hmm. So far I've only had good service from Telkom.

Went to the local branch last month and applied for an ADSL and telephone line. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and efficient. I was done within 40 minutes. Within 3 days a technician was at my house (after they called me and made an appointment) and installed my telephone line; and he did not leave until everything was activated and working.

mybroadband.co.za only tried to contact the stores only after they were firmly rebuffed by the call centre.
I have been to a number of Telkom stores to buy an LTE router and some data as recently as last week however, this does not seem to be possible.
As a business you really put yourself in an unfortunate position when you make it impossible for potential customers to buy things from you.
