Well it's making my life a lot easier.

Ive seen a lot of okes reporting that the issue goes away when they on EDGE, but then of course you stuck on EDGE speeds which is kinda ridiculous.

Most phones can only switch between EDGE and HSUPA, but cant enable ONLY HSDPA.

On HSDPA only you get decent 3G speeds, better battery life and from what I can tell the problem is a lot less severe.

From the Dialer :

*#0011#
MENU -> press Back
8 (Phone Control)
3 (NAS Control)
5 (Revision Control)
2 Change Revision
2 Release 5 (HSDPA ONLY)

Screen should read, HSDPA ON, HSUPA OFF

MENU -> press END

You will see your icon change from a H to 3G icon.

Let me know if it helps at all.

No. It means that modem can be stuck to 2100MHz 3G (HSDPA or similiar) picking up some distant tower and stop searching for the 3G signal in 900MHz band in which you have full signal.

Im trying this fix to no avail. I can barely even use whatsapp in the Westmead, Pinetown area. I spend most of my time at work here so its really frustrating to say the least.

After dialling *#0011# I get into the service menu. However when pressing menu and selecting back nothing happens, it just stays on the first screen.

Ps. I recently installed the latest Galaxy S4 firmware (OTA). 402MB

Any suggestions or advice?

Force to gsm only will solve the problem, just very slow compared to h+, but sometimes better than nothing

i have an d Samsung S4 form FNB, on the mtn network , if the phone shows 3g for data, i get nothing, only works on E or HSDPA+.

how do you disable 3g
