Cell C network problem complaints

Yay! At last this issue made it to a news article.

Cell C has oversold their capacity and continue to do so. They need to use some of their advertising budget to fix their sub standard network.

They also need to stop looking for mnvo like Fnb and the like who will sell more capacity which they clearly don't have until they have fixed their broken network

I have 2 SIMS with them and yes it is as bad as the article claims. Slow or non inconsistent browsing and unable to make or receive calls even with signal.

If you want cheap internet and willing to suffer for it - great.

Using it as your primary number for voice calls - stay away.

It's bad enough that my CellC SIM is now in an old phone, just to use up the contract minutes on weekends. During the week in Sandton it was unusable.

I've started with prepaid 8ta for my primary phone, great in Sandton, roams on MTN a fair amount in the east of Pretoria.

It definitely is as the article states. The only reason I'm still with them is the free CellC to CellC minutes when you recharge because my friends are with CellC. And thank god for the free minutes and per second billing, because our calls drop at least 3 - 5 times per 10 minute call on most occasions.

And the internet throughput is rubbish ... I will have full 3G signal, but if I try to browse or use what's app, it doesn't work.

So I have actually purchased a Vodacom prepaid 12x1GB bundle and use that in my iPad and carry that with me to work everyday so that I have decent internet access.

At least it's still working fairly well in Bloem, no real complaints here. I can even use EDGE to browse when I'm too lazy to turn on 3G. VC's EDGE was generally useless before I ported.

The article says "Complaints pouring in" but then shows 2 complaints. I have CellC and have no problems at all, yes connectivity dies, but no differently to what happened on other networks...

Their network is a joke.
I have support calls open from August last year complaining about bad signal and no data even when I do have some signal.
I have an MTN sim in my tablet and that has been working great for the last 5 months since I've had it.

It's worse than the article states

I have almost no usable network coverage on the east rand and in the north. From atlas road n12 to rivonia on the n1 I cannot make a call that last more than 30 seconds , at home it's a sad joke, there is no signal to speak of, and they came to put some crappy repeater up, which only some how makes it worse when it's on!!

Lets not get started on their repair department who seem to think upgrading a iphone on 6.1.4 , to 6.1.4 will fix a known hardware issue.

Enough!

Network problems from Rivonia to Olifantsfontein while driving. This is a major business hub of Africa. CellC must catch a wake up!!!

Data connectivity is sometimes non-existent even though my signal is on 3G or HSDPA.

With companies blocking social networking sites it is a real issue when we can't use our personal devices to network.

For the last two weeks I have had two BB 9300 with a Vodacom and CellC SIM in them. Here in Cape Town CBD the Vodacom one has no problems, the CellC one often drops BIS and is only on EDGE.

I even swapped phones and same result.

Reason why all except this one phone is on Vodacom and I will not renew it either.

Been struggling with mine for months. It has been "better" over the last few weeks at home (if i sit on the right couch holding my hand on the ipad in the right place) but moving between buildings in the JHB CBD means no 3G or Edge throughput. Signal is perfect though....but completely useless.

Well done MyBB for reporting on this!

I used to recommend Cell C data to all my friends, now I'm warning them to stay away. The data service is now beyond a joke, I cant stay connected for more than 5 minutes at a time, and speeds have been reduced to a crawl!

Whoosh? I wish... :erm:

I live pretty close to the Cell C head office here in Johannesburg and the connection is always pretty bad. I've given up with Cell C, just got a month left on my contract and then going to move to someone else.

As they say in the American car ads, "Individual gas mileage may vary".

Obviously it depends on your area, but sometimes your setup has a lot to do with the performance. Changing my router software and getting a good modem effectively doubled my speed. And on a good day (actually night) it will hit and sustain 12mbps.

What I find odd is that ijacobs3 lives within about 1 km of where I am.

Cell C is like a cheap girl.

Fine for a very short time.

But you will not introduce her to your friends nor enter in a lasting relationship.

Good bey, and darling don't phone me, I will phone you.

The article clearly points to Twitter, Facebook, HelloPeter, and the MyBroadband forums as the various sources of complaints but clearly you missed that.

Perhaps you should look here

I have CellC and have no problems at all

Lucky you.

Great that there is an article about this, and that mybb has requested a response from Cell C.

Thing is they have also launched a new ad campaign on radio and tv, which makes all sorts of claims. Problem is they cant provide a good service at present, and launching a campaign to get more subscribers is going to make things worse.

Hope Mybb can get a formal response and then track against the promises.

I fell for 99c deal about 8 months ago. I took my old phone with over to cell C and had nothing but bad serivce with them. I took 6 months contract, and luckly I could cancel at any time. I did this within the first 3 months. Previously I was at MTN with HTC desire phone. Places where I knew I had signal, I could never get signal with CC. With my calls, at least 50% of them would be dropped within the first few mins. The finals straw was when I had an emergency at home and I tried calling and the same call where dropped 4 times in a row. Had only a few seconds to talk and find out what was going on, before the call was dropped! Not thanks, CellC networks sucks!
