There have been many complaints about ADSL problems in some areas, and to help everyone concerned we want to start threads related to specific areas to help to identify problems.

To make sure we give as much info as possible, and that the areas are easy to find, please follow the following structure when you open a thread or make a post.

  • Before you start a new thread, first search this forum to see if your suburb is not already listed.
  • If your suburb is listed, post in that thread (do not start a new thread) with the info listed below
  • If your suburb is not listed, start a new thread using the title structure listed below

How to do a traceroute (Thanks MickeyD)

Open a DOS window (Run -> cmd, enter), type the following command:

C:\tracert telkom.co.za {enter}

@RPM when you say search this forum do you mean the 'Telkom ADSL area problems' forum or the entire myBB forum. The reason I ask is that I have been giving some info about the upgrade status (ETA's) of the Durbanville area and I would like to share it with the forum users, so I am assuming if I create the thread in this forum that would be the right place ? There are already a few 'Durbanville ADSL problms' threads, but not specifically in the 'Telkom ADSL area problems' forum.
 
@Psykro, you can post it in the Telkom ADSL area problems. I believe (until corrected) that would be the correct place. :)

This is a brilliant idea and i missed seeing this section. TelkomZA is certainly making an impact :p

Fish Hoek. Almost unusual in the evenings

I have a flapping line in the evening. It's almost impossible to get to any websites, including Telkom. I have the highest speed available (whatever that is) from Telkom.

Here's what I get around 21:10

Extremely slow response on websites and streaming

Rosebank Telkom Server - terribly slow speed..

Not sure if any body else experiencing the terrible slow internet in the area... Telkom told me its a problem with a server n still after a one year situation is worse...
I get speed of 0.04 on 1 mbps line so yeah my money is going on waste each month tried different service providers so far but result is same...

My problem is: ADSL Broadacres - so underutilised that there are no plans to upgrade to 10Mbps or VDSL - now what? Service runs perfect though on 4Mbps.

The line freezes when online. Sometimes it needs a router reboot to fix it

Attenuation: Well over 55%
Telkom suggests that we lower the speed to 2MB to IMPROVE the stability
 
Gave up on Telkom a long time ago. Had months of congested, unusable ADSL in Durbanville, Cape Town. One *** story after another, so left them. Blissfully been using a WISP ever since.

You just can't trust Telkom.

Apparently, there was a network failure in a nearby area (11 Feb 2013). Traffic was rerouted to the Salt River exchange and it became horribly congested. Tracert to telkomsa.co.za was over 200ms for hops 2-12 during the day. Went through the painful process of reporting it to mweb multiple times, providing evidence, getting it escalated, getting them to open up a case with hellkom.

Exchange was upgraded two months later. The fact that it is in the heart of a business area probably had a lot to do with the speedy upgrade. It's sorted now. Although, not as brilliant as before - I was getting 10-15ms to the mweb server (<50km) and now I am getting 30-35ms. Good luck guys
 
Sonheuwel ADSL Problems

- Since November 2012 my line has been unstable. Download speeds are hardly ever stable, internet browsing is extremely slow, my average ping is also higher than before.
When playing games that sync to master servers overseas the game lags or freezes horribly making it unable to play games such as Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2 etc...

-Currently on a 2Mb (Degraded from a 4Mb since we were being ripped off with the crap service/congestion and wasn't worth paying for the 4Mb)
-Telkom 2Mb Uncapped
-Typically throughout the entire day except after 12pm until probably 6am (So when everyone sleeps :/ )
