Either I can't read, or you lot can't. Seems to me the OP specified threads for problems, not posting your problems in this (sticky) thread.

So. To offset all the problems, here's mine.

Island in the Gulf of Thailand/Koh Samui.
3BB
13Mbps uncapped/unshaped/unthrottled.
R285/month including line.

No problems in last 3 years

Dontcha just hate small tropical island infrastructure. :)

ADSL Line Speed : Fast DSL - up to 1024kbps
All infrastructure provided by Telkom

All phones in use are Telkom supplied, Router in use new D-Link 2750U - Telkom use them.

ISP for access - Various.

Connectivity = erratic. Drops out all the time.

And here's why...most likely poor infrastructure maintenance of the network beyond our premises such as poor oxidization of joints, and copper - especially bad in winter.

60dB Attenuation values or above will cause connectivity issues

Here is the stats from our router.

ADSL Fast

Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 188 140
Attenuation (dB): 335 195
Output Power (dBm): 126 99
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 4960 900
Rate (Kbps): 1024 512
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.13 0.25

HEC Errors: 83 14474
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 12 0

Average latency per hop to servers in SA is below 100 - to servers overseas around 300ms per hop, as soon as our trace route hops leave SA servers.

Last reasonable hop being:

196.44.31.113 | jp-nt-1--pe-ad-1-a.mtnns.net | MTN Network Solutions | 16637 | 0.0% | 157 | 178 | 164 | 7.9

Hope this was useful.

It would be nice if Telkom can sort this out quickly this time (and not take two years like they did, two years ago!)

Worth mentioning that the issue persists no matter which ISP is used ( telkom, openweb, afrihost, etc )

...when I complain about Cell C's 3G the silence is deafening on this site. The moment the "poor" ADSL users experience "problems" every one is up in arms. What is wrong with this picture?

Very few Cell C users?

READ!!

Hi there

There have been many complaints about ADSL problems in some areas, and to help everyone concerned we want to start threads related to specific areas to help to identify problems.

To make sure we give as much info as possible, and that the areas are easy to find, please follow the following structure when you open a thread or make a post.

  • Before you start a new thread, first search this forum to see if your suburb is not already listed.
  • If your suburb is listed, post in that thread (do not start a new thread) with the info listed below
  • If your suburb is not listed, start a new thread using the title structure listed below

TITLE

[suburb name] ADSL problems

BODY

--Give a short explanation of the problem
--Give the first six digits of our phone number (like 011 425 xxxx)
--ADSL line speed (like 1Mbps, 4Mbps etc)
--ISP name and account type (like MWEB uncapped)
--The time of day when you typically see these problems

Optional, but it will be great if you can also give the following information:

--A traceroute to Telkom.co.za
--The actual sync speed of the line
--The attenuation stats of the line

Sample entry here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/546791-ADSL-problems-in-Midstream-Estates

what's the point of complaining. this is south africa. your new car prices are double the price of most countries, SA is ranked near the bottom of ADSL speeds available. why waste your time if you don't have a government willing to back you?

I also have a problem; several actually but I’ll keep this one short.

I cannot maintain an uplink. Every time I get a connection my performance is dismal and the uplink drops.

I tried Tracey or Tracert or whatever her name is, but she could not help either. My uplink was unsustainable.

I phoned Telkom and was told to hold. I tried, I promise you, but in the end I could not hold it in any longer. After returning from the bathroom, I tried again.

This time I connected with an operator whose voice drove me crazy and I had to break the connection. Did they employ the ex-087 sex line operators at their call centre? Anyway, I made it to the bathroom just in time.

Knowing that a solution was imminent, I persevered. After much to-ing and fro-ing I got lucky. Or so I thought.

I received this awesome email from this webmaster guy from mybroadband informing me to come on over and share my misery with other equally unfortunate souls; sort of like a “wallow in our misery” party.

So here I am, cockblocked and loaded, spurting forth my tale of woe.

FREE ME, MWEB!

Wait, that won’t work. Some fabulous chap of theirs also sent me an email. Damn it but I’m popular lately. However he accused me of being an abuser as I download a lot of “stuff” so he’s not so fabulous anymore. Not in my books anyway.

I tried to reason with the chap, after all I have a medical condition and I need my “stuff” to research my performance issues. He replied that I was dysfunctional. :wtf: of course I am!

Please help me, mybroadband.
