This not the place to list your adsl issues

I'm confused. I thought the whole point was to list your ADSL issues. "Telkom ADSL exchange and network problems: Your help needed". Perhaps you meant to say this is the place to help identify and resolve the issue, not whine about it?

Please read the OP. The point it to create a separate thread for your area.

Hi there

There have been many complaints about ADSL problems in some areas, and to help everyone concerned we want to start threads related to specific areas to help to identify problems.

To make sure we give as much info as possible, and that the areas are easy to find, please follow the following structure when you open a thread or make a post.

  • Before you start a new thread, first search this forum to see if your suburb is not already listed.
  • If your suburb is listed, post in that thread (do not start a new thread) with the info listed below
  • If your suburb is not listed, start a new thread using the title structure listed below

TITLE

[suburb name] ADSL problems

BODY

--Give a short explanation of the problem
--Give the first six digits of our phone number (like 011 425 xxxx)
--ADSL line speed (like 1Mbps, 4Mbps etc)
--ISP name and account type (like MWEB uncapped)
--The time of day when you typically see these problems

Optional, but it will be great if you can also give the following information:

--A traceroute to Telkom.co.za
--The actual sync speed of the line
--The attenuation stats of the line

OKaY so this is my first "Forum Post"(not sure if thats said right) BUT my M-Web line is a 2mb Business Line and it runs perfectly,no issues at all. However people that have a home account seem to have difficulties with service, response and all that jazz.. Point being : I think theres favoritism relating to what line you have. Just saying..

Stick to the mweb thread.
TI is 100x better than mweb.

Westonaria

Degraded line speed to a point where it's almost unusable at times. Line syncs at 4096 Down and 512 Up. Speed tests in the early morning hours seem to be fine:

GwweeUu.jpg

However during the day and even in at night it degrades completely. During the day it sometimes even goes to a point where the downstream is slower than the upstream (0.30Mbps)

Here is a screenshot of a speedtest @ around 8:00pm

I have recently moved from Allens Nek Roodepoort where I had the best Telkom ADSL service imaginable to Robindale Randburg, where Telkom ADSL is non-existant. I have signed a 24 month contract with Telkom, and requested the line be moved a week before I moved. I have been asked to take a days leave so a technician can install a new line at my new premises as there have never been a Telkom line before. The technician arrived just after 10:00, did not seem very enthusiastic about helping complaining about the weather and so, and mentioned that he was only allowed to work on Linden lines, and I fell under Randburg. I never heard from Telkom after that until I escalated the order. Three week later I got informed that I am 4km away from the nearest exchange, and they cannot complete the order. What does one do in this case? I have already received a bill, and only paid 1/10 thereof since I am unable to use the service.

any updates regarding Rosebank Telkom server and ADSL speed in the area?

Hi,

Tired of poor ADSL speed last year I disconnected my Telkom line. There were talks that Rosebank exchange is undergoing upgrade to solve overload problem.

My question is,

any news regarding their upgrade?

and also if some one is using ADSL in the area (rose bank exchange) kindly advise what kind of speed are you getting. Is it worth to go back to ADSL again or still its same old story.

Thanks.

Regards.

some sanity

2mbps mweb/telkom line

I should have a speed of 2mbps but it's only 1 mbps at its best if i don't try to download something. I'm so not happy with it. I did put in a query and they phoned me and said that they promised UP TO 2mbps. I think they can just cync the line to 2 mbps. I don't want to hear about Up TO!!!!!!! I pay for 2mbps speed and that's what i want.

Area: Melrose North/Birdhaven -Sandton/JHB
011 447 xxxx cable was apparently cut on friday at midday with multiple faults logged to Telkom support for both dead lines and hence no ADSL, including myself.
Support technician arrived on Saturday to confirm that line was indeed cut and not Rosebank exchange congestion and eliminated other line issues.
He then said he would escalate issue to cable people. I'm just bumping this here to increase visibility as he said at least 20 lines affected on Westwood Road in the area.

Edited to reply to 'some sanity':
I'm on the rosebank exchange but can only stably connect at 5 megs because of my distance to DSLAM.
Its still overcrowded though , so there are dips in throuhgput in the evenings during "prime time" 6pm-10pm.
For what its worth, the technician said a Rosebank MSAN should be coming within the next 3 months...although seeing is believing.

Good day guys, not to sure if this is the correct place, if not please move or delete...

I live in Oak Glen, Bellville. I called Telkom yesterday to get ADSL line but apparently there is no space on the exchange for me, say what? What can a man do, except complain :P

I'm in the same boat as you Alwyn. I have a Telkom line at the moment, and I'm moving houses to another area of Somerset West (same town), and they say it's impossible to do because they have no space on the exchange and they're not accepting any more applications from Somerset West residents, with no estimated time of resolution.

Bergvliet Exchange

Bergvliet exchange has no ports available.
ETA for upgrade is February 15th, 2015.
Upgrade is from DSLAM to ISLAM. (Outdated technology to , yes outdated technology)

This is a typical case of no forward planning. Fail to plan, plan to fail.
The lack of forward budgeting and no quote from the supplier, Lucent Alcatel.
In other words , incompetent management.
