Gave up on Telkom a long time ago. Had months of congested, unusable ADSL in Durbanville, Cape Town. One *** story after another, so left them. Blissfully been using a WISP ever since.

You just can't trust Telkom.

Undesign, what WISP do you use? Contemplating that myself.

Shame, you should switch over to cell c's 3G and see what real problems are.

Funny thing though, when I complain about Cell C's 3G the silence is deafening on this site. The moment the "poor" ADSL users experience "problems" every one is up in arms. What is wrong with this picture?

I hope this is at the right place. I am using Iburst at work and at home. My house is at Firlands, an outlying area in Helderberg. On the N2, below Sir Lowrys Pass. Although this is at the limit of Iburst reception, speed was not that bad. When Eskom installed a new high voltage power line through Iburst's line of site, the speed dropped radically. I then added ADSL through Iafrica. I am very happy with the speed, although we do suffer some extreme slow times ± 3 to 4 times a week.

If you're posting line issues in this thread, you're not following the instructions. :-/

I see that a lot are being posted into the threads which is a good thing, however there are a LOT of exchanges in South Africa.

Could they be split up into further sub-fora? For example Regional and Sub-Regional?
For example, instead of " Claremont, Cape Town [Clareinch Exchange] ADSL problems" being within "Forum: Telkom ADSL area problems", it could be within "Forum: Telkom ADSL area problems" \ "Western Cape" \ "Cape Town" \ "Southern Suburbs"

Hi Guys

IF YOU CANNOT OPEN A TELKOM WEBSITE FAST ENOUGH, THEN THERE IS A PROBLEM.
THIS CLEARLY INDICATES AN ISSUE IN THE TELKOM DATACENTER OR ROUTING POLICY.

As an ISP we have courteously informed all our clients that there will be speed related issues because Telkom is up to something that we are not aware off.

We have undertaken to keep all our clients on our mailing list informed as the service levels improve as all the accounts on our network are persistently monitored.

You are welcome to join our mailing list by sending me an email to [email protected] and we will keep you updated.

Clients have been experiencing the following problems:
1. Slow connections and intermitted connections.
2. Total blackouts as ADSL lines were down.
3. Problems receiving email due to timeout errors.
4. Problems browsing sites (local and international) due to gateway timeout errors.
5. Broken downloads due to almost 0.1mbps connections.
6. Inability to stream and play online games.
7. All ADSL line speed options are having the same problems.

To date, we don not have an ETA as to when the issue will be resolved.

Regards,
Zeyn Khan

The last two weeks or so I had quite a few line speed problems. Hi latency on local game servers and the sort. Did not bother to report as from experience I know just to be patient and wait till it comes right. But as I said the last few weeks it seems to be must more frequent than usual. I had no outages though.

Stonehurst Westlake (Cape Town) ADSL Problems

For the last few weeks typical ADSL speed (using www.speedtest.net) is 0.45Mb/s on a 10Mb/s line. Telkom have reset the ports in the exchange, and tested the wiring to the house and even changed the port in the DSLAM, but it has made no difference. I'm the communications trustee for Stonehurst Estate, and I'm convinced the issue is the contention ratio of the fibre optic cable to our exchange, which is shared with Westlake Business Park. There is a slim chance the issue could be with my ISP but their Gold Uncapped is usually pretty reliable...

I also have a problem; several actually but I’ll keep this one short.

I cannot maintain an uplink. Every time I get a connection my performance is dismal and the uplink drops.

I tried Tracey or Tracert or whatever her name is, but she could not help either. My uplink was unsustainable.

I phoned Telkom and was told to hold. I tried, I promise you, but in the end I could not hold it in any longer. After returning from the bathroom, I tried again.

This time I connected with an operator whose voice drove me crazy and I had to break the connection. Did they employ the ex-087 sex line operators at their call centre? Anyway, I made it to the bathroom just in time.

Knowing that a solution was imminent, I persevered. After much to-ing and fro-ing I got lucky. Or so I thought.

I received this awesome email from this webmaster guy from mybroadband informing me to come on over and share my misery with other equally unfortunate souls; sort of like a “wallow in our misery” party.

So here I am, cockblocked and loaded, spurting forth my tale of woe.

FREE ME, MWEB!

Wait, that won’t work. Some fabulous chap of theirs also sent me an email. Damn it but I’m popular lately. However he accused me of being an abuser as I download a lot of “stuff” so he’s not so fabulous anymore. Not in my books anyway.

I tried to reason with the chap, after all I have a medical condition and I need my “stuff” to research my performance issues. He replied that I was dysfunctional. :wtf: of course I am!

Please help me, mybroadband.

Hi there

There have been many complaints about ADSL problems in some areas, and to help everyone concerned we want to start threads related to specific areas to help to identify problems.

To make sure we give as much info as possible, and that the areas are easy to find, please follow the following structure when you open a thread or make a post.

  • Before you start a new thread, first search this forum to see if your suburb is not already listed.
  • If your suburb is listed, post in that thread (do not start a new thread) with the info listed below
  • If your suburb is not listed, start a new thread using the title structure listed below

What is it about "start a new thread" that people find hard to understand ? :wtf: Suggest you lock this first thread to force them to think.
