DStv downtime: MultiChoice suggests a fix

AFAIK that "fix" will reset the HD decoder to default... XtraView, RF output and scheduled recordings too. Might be a good idea to mention this to the end user.

Proper fix: DSTV, write quality firmware...

People are lucky that their DSTV is showing a blue screen. Mine is just black and changing channels does nothing. Unplugged it and plugged it back in again but no change.

Funny, yesterday during the storm my satellites receiver was buggered (indirect strike) so I put in a new receiver this morning and both decoders (SD PVR and HD 2P) were stuck at "Verifying your Subscription Status" for a good 10 minutes, as I was about to call the call center the problem went away and everything is still fine

Did the reset. Everything is fine. It did not wipe the series recordings but not sure of movies I marked. Cant remember if I marked anything...

Updated the article to point at the follow-up article which contains the official fix from MultiChoice which has different steps than the one posted by @DStvCare.

Maybe the factory reset during boot will work for you, Solitude?

Thanks Jan, yes the factory reset worked. It's a shame that I lost my scheduled recordings but I can just go schedule them again.

How long should this factory reset take? Mine had been determining footprint for like 5 minutes...
