GDR3 Officially Announced

Came here expecting a post on DDR3 or GDDR3 or DDR4.

Nothing impressive

These are only the updates from MS's side for the OS, it doesn't include anything that will be available in the Bittersweet Shimmer update from Nokia, one thing that comes to mind is notifications on glance screen.

/heads over to install GDR3. Developer Phone FTW :D

Busy downloading the SDK to unlock my phone :D

Edit: It's not necessary to dev unlock your phone if you have a Windows Phone App Studio account.

Anybody here got a Samsung Ativ S and managed to GDR2 yet?

Should have come out for everyone as I believe.

Sadly not. 3 of us in my office have the Samsung Ativ S (and we happen each be on a different cell phone network), yet none of us can get the GDR2 update. Believe me, I hit that "Check for Updates" button at least once a week.

I've removed my SIM, checked again, even reset my phone. Still nada.

Gobsmacked. They STILL haven't included VPN functionality, IMAP still as broken as 3 major WP versions back and still no notification centre. How can you take his half-baked incomplete OS seriously??

garp, GDR3 is a minor update, as were GDR1 and GDR2.

WP8.1 is the first major update and will contain a notification centre, amongst other improvements. It is due early in 2014.

Vpn on a phone, why?

What's wrong with IMAP, my Gmail account syncs just fine using it.

Notification center that everyone is crying about is in the 8.1 update.

It's indispensable to anyone who needs to regularly connect to services on your LAN. I RDP to our internal servers/PC's all the time on Android/iOS, as well as various other internal only services. Have been doing this for years and it's just utterly amazing that this is not possible on WP.

Gmail is a special IMAP account specifically setup for Gmail on WP. Try using standard IMAP - it forces the names of your send and delete folders, and completely doesn't handle subfolders, the ability to copy between folders, to name a few showstoppers and unbelievably, this has been the state of windows phone IMAP support since the first windows phone version.

Ah, the mythical *2014* 8.1 update. I won't hold my breath.

In the meantime I just love seeing a notification popup but just missing reading it, so ending up trawling through every app to try and work out where it came from.

This is so ridiculously far behind the standard. Every now and again I dust off the Lumia to update it and see if features I've taken for granted in Android and IOS for years have finally been added because I happen to think WP is *potentially* a great platform, and every time I find myself amazed that, no, the IMAP support is still as crappy as it was in WP7, and no, you still can't do basic things like connect to an office server over VPN.
