10MB uncapped working like a dream here...

In western cape kuilsriver i cant login into any european servers for mmorpgs. i play swtor, rift and arch age nothing connects. the accounts dont make connection. is anyone else also having issues like this on a 4mbps uncapped?

Can we get an update on the increased IPC?? Been like this since the 30 September with no update. This has pretty much been going on since the 9th September when you guys tried to blame iOS 8 release for the poor speeds.

We're definitely considering IPC upgrades and waiting for any confirmation from senior management in this regard. As soon as I have confirmed information I will update the forum.

We have already made some optimisation changes and have seen some great improvement, especially in realtime speeds. Where are you seeing poor speeds now?

11:18 PM and still fully shaped. Switched to my capped (afrihost) account and I get full speed. :/

Honestly why am I paying for a 4mg uncapped line if I'm only going to get 2mg?

Edit: seems the speed is bouncing arround a bit it's been up a bit now. so it may not be shaping, tho my user cp still says I am shaped.

Remember that after 10pm (depending on your region) we fall back to dynamic shaping. So it really depends on demand in that region. We general see shaping start to relax immediately after 10pm and most users are unshaped by 12pm. It really depends on the overall demand on any given day.

Quick follow up. Rebooted router and all seems much better. Not convinced it was router, but rather that issue had passed, however, I did reboot...

A router reboot generally also restores the line sync. So it may be related to a loss or degrade of sync.

Reading a customer complaint and ignoring it doesn't make it go away. I'm on 10Mbps capped so shaping can't be the issue.

Sorry about this, our team generally take a needed break over the weekend so we can be fresh and give great service throughout the week. We are working on extending our hours soon. But for the moment, if you also PM us we can address queries as urgent over the weekend.

Can you run some traceroutes to the servers so I can see what happens? Maybe send me a PM so I can try and test the services as well :(

Has there been any change to the throttling in the southern region(East London)? My online games are all running at a snails pace. FFXIV has massive lag spikes, or even just gameplay delays(10mins behind everyone else on my server at one world boss) and Archeage is the same. Both games ran 100% when I switched to my capped account for testing and Archeage ran perfectly on a VPN too(I cant test FFXIV on cyberghost).

Good luck. They will blatantly refute any claims that their shaping is affecting gaming. Been down that road.

Take tracert's and get as much evidence of this as possible to force them to acknowledge that the problem is the shaping.

However if your games uses p2p protocols, which seems to be the case, then I doubt there is any solution other than switching to another type of account.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

I had a very similar issue about a year ago with my latency in wow skyrocketing to 2-3k whenever shaping was applied to my account and working perfectly when it wasn't. I had to run in circles between afrihost and blizzard for 3 or so weeks with both blaming the other.

Until I took matters into my own hands and found a work-around by adjusting my mtu size(I dont really know how it worked) and it stopped immediately(sadly it doesn't anymore).

I should note that I've been playing ffxiv since the beta of last year it has never once lagged this bad even though my account has pretty much been sitting at 25%/12.5% since January 2014. For Archeage I can't really say, only started with it yesterday.

FFXIV actually plays just fine until I go into a group environment. With normal response when I'm alone in a zone, to lagspikes when I go into 8man content and just flat out delays in 24+ man content.

And yes I have tested the capped and uncapped at the same time/location and on the same piece of content:
1. Shaped uncapped = lagspikes in group fight
2. Change to capped
3. Unshaped capped = smooth as a babies bottom
4. Changed to uncapped
5. Shaped uncapped = back to the same lagspikes

I tested the vpn in ffxiv too and it was 100% smooth on my shaped account. I noticed this problem on last week friday after I came back from a weeks vacation but thought it was simply instance server lag until I did my testing today.

Account just became unshaped (@1:50am so fun) and I immediately did the group fight test and it was
just as smooth as capped.
I did some tracerts
1. Shaped 25%/12.5%(Lagging like hell)

Now I'm no expert here but those two look exactly the same to me. Which is exactly the same as I had last year but it IS directly linked to the shaping on my account. So please don't tell me it's not.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a poor experience. With some of the changes that we've been making its possible that there could be unexpected side effects. What we'll need to do is determine whether there is any shaping on this traffic by testing with you while we monitor the shaping system to see if anything is acting on your traffic.

Drop me a PM so we can look into this ASAP.

+1

I'm on 2mb and afrihost cost R100 more than other isp. I heard the throttling on other ISPs are bad so I stuck with afrihost, but if things are going to be like this than I rather save R100 and switch.

Throttling on Mweb isn't bad. You can barely hit 100GB on the 2mbps line. And, it's cheaper.

Our DSL is never throttled. We only shape non-realtime services, according to demand mostly (during the day we shape all Uncapped accounts on same services for peak usage)

Well. That's fair enough.

Well I gave Afrihost the same information as GunBlade and i get almost the same response almost every time... "Everything looks good on our side, try rebooting your router, we have re-synced your line on our side" blah blah whatever....

I'm on the 2MB Business uncapped and have been complaining since day one that my online gaming sucks 90% of the time.
(Diablo 3 lat @ 280ms doing nothing in town... ~500ms, running around town... 3000+ms trying to fight some mobs)

I received a little gem the other day from an Afrihost rep and I quote:

"Unfortunately there is a problem with our shaping policy on 2Mbps Uncapped Account/Business Uncapped DSL. This has been an ongoing issue that no resolution has been established yet."

SO, tell me Afrihost how can your admin team that my complaint got escalated to say everything is working 100%

Not only that but "shaping policy on 2Mbps Uncapped Account/Business Uncapped DSL" what?? Thought you said there was no shaping policy.

And lets not mention I can barely stream 144p YouTube vids and my HTTP downloads sit @ sub 20kbps. Oh wait i mentioned it :P
