Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Not impressed at all with these changes if the "levels" are determined the same as previously.

Throttling the internet between 19:00 and 21:00 if the level is 50%? That is just greed.
Will see what happens this month otherwise I'm changing my ISP.

I'm not happy with this new FUP , specially now that I can be throttled when I reach 50% , I normally only go in the red bar by the last day of the month .

Below is the website with the details.

Dear Valued Customer

In order to improve the user experience of all Telkom Internet uncapped customers, Telkom will be applying a more favourable Fair Usage Policy (FUP) from 1 December 2016. This is a significant improvement on the current policy in which, after reaching the fair use threshold, customers are throttled for the rest of the month. We would like to share the following information with you in order to assist in managing your uncapped experience and ensuring that you are not adversely impacted.

What is the Fair Usage Policy?

In terms of the Telkom AUP, Telkom reserves the right to apply restrictions on an uncapped account if a customer 's behaviour is deemed to be affecting the user experience of other customers on the Telkom network. Examples of customer behaviour which may compromise Telkom's network performance include, amongst other, causing congestion, running excessive concurrent internet sessions or accessing excessive bandwidth intensive protocols such as peer-to-peer. Restrictions which may be applied by Telkom in terms of the Telkom Internet FUP include, but are not limited to, throttling a customer's throughput speeds and/or shaping a customer's bandwidth to limit the use of bandwidth intensive protocols and applications. Click here to view the policy.

FUP levels explained

The FUP is dynamic and customers that reach the FUP levels, will be throttled during specific peak traffic times on a daily basis. No throttling will take place for the remainder of the day. What does throttling mean? Throttling allows internet browsing, but at a reduced speed. Please be advised that each uncapped product has allocated FUP threshold parameters.

You will receive an in browser notification whilst online once you reach such FUP level, as per example below. Please note that when you close the notification box, it will be removed and you will not receive the notification again.

FUP
FUP level 1

Customers that reach 50% of the FUP will be throttled between 19:00 and 21:00.

FUP level 2

Customers that reach 75% of the FUP will be throttled between 18:00 and 22:00.

FUP level 3

Customers that reach 100% of the FUP will be throttled between 7:00 and 24:00. Once FUP level 3 is reached, a customers’ rollover date will be changed. A rollover date is the monthly start date of your Telkom Internet uncapped account. The standard roll over date is the 1st of every month. The new date will be one of the following: 8th, 15th or 21st, depending on which date is the closest to the date that the FUP level was reached. The new roll over date will remain in place whilst the customer subscribes to the uncapped product.

FUP FUP FUP FUP
Priority pass

Customers qualify for two priority passes per month. A priority pass offers you one hour of internet surfing, at normal speed, once you reach a FUP level.

According to image in that, 100GB is level 3 for a 4mb account.
I hope everyone enjoys their throttled prime time internet, with rollover restrictions.

I can just buy a 200GB capped account from webafrica and save money.

Yeah - maybe they've fixed TI Tracker ...

We have encountered an error connecting to one or more of our databases.
Please try again later. You can report this error to the TelkomInternet Web Administration team
by emailing them at [email protected]

... then again, maybe not

Yikes, nobody loves uncapped users anymore.

I believe this new throttling crap will most likely mean the end of my relationship with Telkom.

Wonder what the FUP levels are for 10Mbps uncapped, the current combo promo @ R799/mth is starting to make sense.

I normally use my ipad to connect to my TV to watch Netflix , The other alternative I will have to download from 12am to 7am on my ipad from Netflix to watch the next night when I reach 50% FUP .A good thing that we can download from the Netflix app to watch it later offline .

Yeah **** this ****. I will rather start looking elsewhere. I went onto the net today and got a notification that said I am on level 1 already.

Bye telkom.

Except that 100% is the new 50%.

So, FUP will start at the same usage level, but will be more gradual, and never 24×7 like before

That should be impossible. But, there may have been an issue affecting your account. PM me your username and I will check.

Except when you actually need to use the internet.

Not impressed :(
I know you have nothing to do with it but this is a very slimy tactic that Telkom has just pulled. Will be canceling tomorrow.

Kevin here is your redeeming front page story. :D

I you weren't throttled before, you won't be now. If you were, you will now be throttled less.

You will be able to see for yourself very soon, hopefully tomorrow.

Everything is in place for you to have complete visibility of your usage (and other features), we just ran out of time verifying that everything works 100% in production (that is working in QA and pre-production).

Just got a notification now as well. I don't see myself staying with Telkom if this continues!

Um, it's actually an improvement, but maybe the customer communication didn't make this clear.

FUP enforcement will start a exactly the same utilisation as before, but instead of being throttled to 384k until the end of the month, you will be throttled to half your normal speed for only 2 hours a day.
