Roku 3 tips and discussions.

Quick question on Entropay. I start with the minimum of $20 from which it takes 5% to set up my card and the. $5 after 6 months as it will likely remain dormant (don't plan on buying anything but never know). But apart from that no fees so will be able to use google play unhindered ?

Minimum is $50

The two well known channels for movies and series are Let Me Watch This and SS-Plex in the Unsupported App Store channel
 
I'm at a dead end :-( Created an Entropay virtual CC, but struggle to create a Google Wallet. Before I can use it I need to verify my details. A USA address is not a problem but giving a social security number is!

Any way around this to get the google play channel on Roku streaming (no android devices in the house either ...)!

I used my SA credit card for a long time with google wallet when I created my account many years ago. I changed my payment method by adding a new card (entropay) and used a US address. It never asked my for a SS number.

I have Plex on my Roku 3. I loaded it a while ago, but a few days ago I had to do a factory reset (my Roku wasn't booting up) and re-register the Roku etc, and after the reset it reloaded Plex automatically.
 
I just checked and Plex is in the channel store. Look under the music category.
 
So after alot of struggling and router restarts and trying different IP's ect I have decided just to buy a new router and hopefully the static routing will work.

Could someone please suggest a good modem for me. I mainly have 2 devices connected via LAN and then around 5 devices connected via WiFi. My main purpose is to get Netflix working again but also want good speeds - I currently run 10mb Uncapped account.

The TP Link Archer D7 has been recommended to me by a few people, but it's not cheap. Stay away from Linksys/Cisco routers. Besides the fact that they have the most pathetic user interface imaginable, they also have problems with static routes. I have a Linksys X3500 and I struggled to get the static routes set up as recommended by Unotelly. Anyway about 3 weeks ago Netflix stopped working on my Roku. I switched back to my old Netgear router and Netflix works. As far as DNS servers and static routes go, both routers are setup the same. I've tried switching routers a few times and Netflix just doesn't work with the Linksys. On this link they tell you which routers have problems with static routes.
 
Just my 2 cents worth.

My have been using a Trendnet TEW-658BRM adsl router for 2 years now with zero issues on a 6meg line. I have the following devices connected with Ethernet: Xbox One, Xbox 360, 2 x Roku, 2 x Mede8er, laptop, Yamaha rx-v475. Wireless I have 3 devices connected, Sony Xperia, Samsung S2, Samsung Note.

I use UnoTelly for Netflix US, BBC iPlayer, 4OD, Demand 5, SkyNews, BBC News, BBC Sport, and a couple others on the Roku. I also use Rdio on my wireless devices for music.

You can pick them up for cheap, probably R500 to R600. It supports static routes, but I prefer to actually totally block the public DNS ip's directly on the routers firewall to fix the Roku Netflix issue. So if you can't afford an expensive router, have a look at the TrendNet. Cheap, but functional.

Interesting, I must try that on my Linksys, but I thought that the firewall only blocks incoming traffic?

Here's a screenshot of my IP filtering on the TrendNet router firewall. Notice that source IP is not specified, only destination. I am also blocking more than just Google DNS as you can see. I also block pings (ICMP) to the DNS servers as well.

The other thing I do is on the DHCP settings. I explicitly specify the DNS server IP addresses on the DHCP settings. Ultimately, this means that when an IP is given to a device, the DNS server IP's are part of that DHCP packet, the device doesn't need to ask the router for DNS info, nor does it use the DNS server as specified on the router's internet settings. Also, I set the lease expiry to 24 hours (86400 seconds)

Thanks for that info. I do the same as you for the DHCP settings, but my Linksys router does not have that level of control for the firewall.

I just tried something, I enabled "Filter Internet NAT Redirection", and now Netflix is working on the Roku with the Linksys router. It may be coincidental though.

The reason I added the DNS servers explicitly on the DHCP settings was because I experienced caching issues on my Roku's if I changed the DNS servers on the router's internet settings. This seemed to solve that problem.

But I am glad you can now watch Netflix. Hopefully it remains this way and you don't have to fork out for a new router :)
