Sony Xperia Z2 launch delay in South Africa

I can't wait for this phone! My S3 is really not aging well, luckily my upgrade day is the 25th of May!

My S3 looks pretty horrible and I needed to buy a new battery a few months back. The stupid power button on the side has also become touch sensitive somehow, so just brushing a finger against it turns it on/off.

But after almost 2 years with a phone, I'm still quite happy! It doesn't freeze and is pretty nippy! Usually at 1 year I start itching and 18 months I need something ASAP.

Also going Sony

Keen on this phone but will hold back until it's clear what freebies / extras the phone comes with in comparison to the tonnes of extras that come with the S5.

@Jan Vermeulen, is an in depth review on the cards from MyBB?

Vodacom said that there was a bit of an administrative hold-up, but everything should be sorted out before 25 May 2014.

Does that mean we might still see it this week? The 25th is a Sunday...

Ja my upgrade is always interesting as it falls in that window where the new HTC, Sony and Samsung is launched, stock has always been an issue this time of year...

You do actually get some really nice freebies with the Z2...well, that is if we are as lucky as the Europeans.

First of all, you get special Sony enhanced earphones, which only work with the Z2.

Then you get a fantastic desktop stand, that charges your phone will you're watching a movie.

I reckon the total cost of the freebies can easily be worth R1200.....R700 for the earphones and R500 for the desktop stand/charger.

How about the Z2 tablet? That's the one I'm interested in. The phone is nice and all but a waterproof, light 10" tablet is just too sexeh.

Cool, and software freebies? i.e. Free 50GB DropBox space etc... ?

Thanks kingrob, I should have just googled it in the first place.

At Sony, we want to bring our customers the world’s best content direct to their mobile. That’s why Xperia Z2 comes right out of the box with a unique experience pack of 6 free movies, including Captain Phillips, 30-day trial of the Music Unlimited service, 8 games from PlayStation®Mobile and a free download of the upcoming Michael Jackson album, XSCAPE.

Whether it’s the latest tracks, movies or games, Sony is all about offering premium entertainment experiences. But we also know that our customers use their phone as a companion for more than entertainment.

So starting today until Tuesday, 31st July, we’re starting to roll out additional offers for owners of Xperia Z2 smartphones to download even more premium app services from Xperia Lounge.

These additional app offers, worth approximately $350, include a three-month subscription to Evernote premium, 50GB of storage on Box for life, a full subscription to OfficeSuite Pro and 10 of our coolest Xperia themes to personalise your phone.

But that’s not all, here’s a full list of the services included in the experience pack:

• Garmin, Full Suite

• OfficeSuite Pro Full version

• Box 50GB for life

• Evernote premium, 3mths

• Bitcasa 1TB storage, 3mths

• 10 Xperia themes

• Social live premium, 1mth*

• Three additional games and apps

To redeem the offer, you’ll need to download the Xperia Lounge app from the Google Play Store, if you don’t have it already. Then just follow the links shared with each premium app displayed in Xperia Lounge when prompted to receive your free premium services. Plus, we’ve made sure that many of these offers will also be available for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1s owners to enjoy as well.

We know that for our customers Xperia devices are more than just pretty pieces of portable technology. They’re a means to listen to their favourite tracks on Music Unlimited, play the latest PlayStation®Mobile games, watch the season’s hottest blockbuster films, or just do some office work on the go. We want to offer our customers all the content they need to make their life as entertaining and portable as possible, and this latest experience pack is another part of our commitment to that.

So keep an eye out for more exclusive apps and content coming your way!

Note that terms and conditions apply. The offer is only available to customers with Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s and Xperia Z2 and is subject to market availability. Garmin offer is available with Xperia Z2 only. Additional apps and games may vary by market.

* Social live premium offer available from June 1- June 30, 2014

So hopefully by Monday the 26th, Vodacom should have these phones available. Any other operators?

I've tried getting a more concrete answer out of them, but they are being very non-committal. All I got was "should be here last week of May".

Lets hold thumbs!

Sony themselves confirmed on Twitter that the Z2 will only be available from 1 June 2014.

I see on top up the z1 is still 9k pay in i.e. no subsidy whatsoever. The s3 when it was a flagship was 8k new and 3.3k pay in. I'm guessing they finally figured out they don't make money on top up.

Autopage pricing. Only pricing I can get easily in a list format on Google
