I logged a call with Afrihost on the 28/07/2014 ZSA-296-51862 my 10mbps business line is sitting at 3mbps, after sitting through a whole bunch of mail stating they have reset my line and I should restart my router, only to find out that it was not fixed.

Eventually you got Telkom out here at my request, the said they fixed it, that wasn't true though.
So I replied no to the Telkom SMS and contacted Afrihost again, where I was once again met with a check your router story.

I called in again and the chappie said no worries I'll call Telkom again for you. I'm still waiting...
I now have to pay Afrihost, to manage Telkom, yet I'm managing both of you now!

I even logged a hellopeter, which I detest doing. http://hellopeter.com/afri-host-com/complaints/afrihost-your-service-is-becoming-really-bad-1484760

Since then I have had Telkom at my house, the technician said to me:

1. I could never get 10mbps at my location as I am 3.2km away from the exchange the best I can get is 6mbps. (My Attenuation value is 40.5)
2. The router that Afrihost sold me does not function properly as the SNR value is only 6.0 he was getting 15

After all this I sent a mail to Afrihost Critical care to talk to Donovan Pillay about his, I could not get hold of him, so I sent a mail. No response.
Today I have mailed and called again, no response, I know he is there though.

So in a nut shell, Afrihost and Telkom combined have been milking me for a service(that Afrihost manages) and not delivering service.

Does ANYONE have a better ISP? I have been with Afrihost since 2008 and now they can go fly a kite.

Ive been a strong advocate for Afrihost for a good 4 years now. ive refereed several friends to Afri to use their ADSL and Hosting. but two weeks ago i cancelled both my ADSl Lines with Afri, their Service is pathetic, Fault logging and support is a bare minimum effort, Shaping has become a 24hr standard basically, i have had enough of trying to be loyal to a once great ISP.

i have moved to BitCo's wireless option, i suggest you have a look, not much more expensive, you cut telkom/copper out the picture.

When you eventually decide to change to a different ISP, please REMEMBER to cancel your DSL line and package with them. If you simply click cancel and go on your merry way, you will be debited again. Make sure to cancel both.

There sure are a lot of Afrihost complaints these days. Here's hoping I don't have issues anytime soon.

I thought transferring your line to Telkom was the correct way to migrate quickly to another ISP?

I'm on 4MB trying to open a 100MB PDF at 20kb/s. Apparently PDFs are also shaped now.

Afrihost has gotten completely ludicrous with their shaping.

I don't buy this whole "distance from the exchange thing".
Copper quality seems to play a much bigger role.

I'm 3.5km by road from my exchange. One of my lines can only sync at 2mbps, the other is capable of 15.
My dad is 3.7km by road from his exchange. Line syncs at 1mb.

Thanks for the advice guys.

It really pains me to move my adsl, but I can't continue to loose my clients as small as they may be in the eyes of afrihost.

I have contacted BitCo and they will only come do a site suvrey if I intend to signup for a contract. This places me in a sticky situation because even though they up the road from me, I'm in a massive dip and get 0% Vodacom, MTN, CellC, 8ta etc.

Looks like I might have to bite that bullet though.

Well the laugh is I used to sync at 10mbps now only 3mbps, crazy.
I'm not sure who the bigger liar is Telkom or Afrihost.

That could be your exchange becoming congested and the speeds being lowered to try accommodate more people.

I don't know, but either way I can't get support and I'm paying for something I'm not getting.

I don't call the ethical business practice.

OP good job for not posting this in AH feedback thread.

@Chilliwabbit

Please post this in the AH feedback thread. It will bring it to their attention and possibly assist other AH clients experiencing same to add pressure to the ISP.

I cancelled what I presumed was my bundle from Afrihost, and requested them to transfer the line back to Telkom, so the new ISP could take it over the following month. Turns out, I cancelled my DSL line, but not my 100+100GB package, so still had to pay for that another month, even though it's impossible to use (too slow).

That's why I stated to make sure, you have to cancel the DSL line, and cancel the package seperately. My mistake was presuming that my line and package being bundled, a cancel would indicate cancel the bundle. But that's not the case.

Guess the devil really is in the details :)

it's bull**** that customers have to even rely on 3rd party websites for support

Just to bring context to this thread, the OP has also posted something similar on one of our main threads.

We have been working with him all along and, as he admits, Telkom have been out to his premises several times.

I can understand that some people can get frustrated when issues like this don't move along very quickly. Long term issues can be very painful, I have first hand experience of this. But resorting to this kind of name calling and spamming our social media is just not cool. Anyone here on the threads can attest that if you drop me a PM, or just post something simply saying that we need help, we're always willing to engage and try to find a solution.

We have tried to help the OP, and we're still willing to help. However, there have to be some rules of engagement. I'm always happy to help, but we give every single forum member respect, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the same in return.

I'm sorry, but how is he being disrespectful? Just curious.

Problem was logged a month ago, either you guys can get if fixed or you cant. Don't see any disrespect from his side, the disrespect it the delay on the issue being fixed and still taking his money for the service he isn't getting.

Don't charge for a 10MB service if you can't deliver even a third of it. And then good luck to him trying to get a refund. It took me 2 months and 20+ emails to get a refund from Afrihost. Was so painful it was not worth the few hundred.

Edit: Also canceled. Afrihost is the new Mweb by the looks of it. MTN rubbing off.
