Neighbourhoods with best broadband speeds in SA

Once FTTH penetration increases these stats will start looking juicy

The results show that Sandton has the highest average upload speed at 12.31Mbps, followed by Parow at 9.45Mbps, and Midrand at 8.77Mbps.

With those average upload speeds, it is clear that ADSL/VDSL makes up a very small portion of all the speedtests that were taken into consideration.

My suburb has 40MB speeds available but I haven't met anyone around here willing to pay the sort of money telkom wants for it. I'm probably one of a few that's even upgraded to 10MB.

I'd kill for that sort of upload speed… if the price was right of course.
 
If just two people live in let's say Kakiesdorp and one of them has 100Mbps broadband then the average will look good in that town.
 
Lies, damn lies and statistics!
I cannot believe the numbers in some of these places. Mossel Bay? Do they even have 10 Mb ADSL exchanges? Maybe a few guys in uncongested HSDPA cells test all the time and the others don't bother. Ookla really need to break it down a bit further, at least into mobile (high speeds, low volume) ADSL (low speed high volume, low cost) FTTx (high speed, high volume, high capital cost).
 
Live in Goodwood, have a 4mb line which was upgraded to 10mb by Telkom when they rolled that out. Used to get full 10mb down and around 1.5mb up at times. Not sure what happened, but I suppose more people got internet and lines became unstable, because I have to sync at 6mb now to get reliable connectivity.

Downloads average around 4mb down and 0.8mb up now. Still ok I suppose, but it would be lekker if things were as before...

It's not that expensive?

10meg vs. 40meg
R399 vs. R535

The rest depends if you're silly enough to go for the uncapped packages or not or if you're diligent enough to use a capped package :p

It's not the line that's pricey on VDSL.... it's not the router either.
It's the uncapped accounts, as mentioned. I'd stick with 10Mb if I had 100GB to use a month, and not spend the extra going to 40Mb... It would blow way too quickly - on a 10Mb you can finish it in 30 hours anyways.

If uploading/downloading/streaming what I want, when I want, makes me silly then I'll have to live with that. ;)
 
Aki talking ADSL know on 702. Gave mybroadband a punt recommending it as the go to site re researching anything ADSL.
