Can anyone advise me, I've been wanting to upgrade to 8GB RAM for ages now. I bought fancy 'Crucial Ballistix S XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1866MHz DDR3 Gaming - Memory Module' RAM over a year ago and it wasn't compatible with my mobo (bought in 2010). How do I go about finding compatible RAM to go into my seemingly ancient mobo? The QVL (qualified vendor list) of appropriate RAM is really small and I wouldn't even know where to get that limited selection in SA.

And am I really restricted to 8GB total if that is what the specs say? Help please!

It seems the Kingston products for that board are discontinued:

Is there any computer shop in your area that might sell used RAM - if so take the machine there and test.

The Kingston RAM on that page is 1066, so maybe try to find some of that if you can, or try 1333 if you can find some.

It might end up being better replacing board, CPU and RAM.

Thanks guys, am reluctant to replace the mobo and cpu, i did consider it briefly.

Second hand RAM did cross my mind.

@Ronnie, is that Transcend RAM likely to be expensive?
