Huge DStv billing problems

Why do people allow these poorly run businesses access to their bank account via debit orders, when EFT is an option?

I believe at some stage DStv offered a discount if you signed up for a debit order.

While I was working at Multichoice billing was a problem every other month, mostly for Africa subscribers. They would sometimes cut peoples subscriptions of a day short, due to a software bug, but still bill them for a full month. I remember their BI department always had to run "fixes" on their database to fix the reports on these issues.

I believe that is still the case but the discount is negliable.

Yeah the discount is like a rand or two. Something that ridiculous. I cancelled debit orders after they made two billing mistakes on my account - good thing I have since changed banks, so if they ****ed up somehow and tried to reinstate it, it'd just cost them money.

I think its R2.5, so its not really an incentive.

Avoiding debit orders like the plague now because of companies inability to get their sh** together.

Lol. That's no incentive at all. Their business model defies logic.

In case you were wondering, which you probably weren't, you get charged a cheque deposit fee of about R20 from your bank when DSTV refunds your money.

oh, that is quality :D

So mine is not an isolated case.

On Friday evening a R823 debit order went off my account with MChoice as reference.

Found that strange because I canceled my DSTV subscription almost 3 years ago. First thing Saturday morning phoned the bank to reverse the debit order.

Also mailed Multichoice and upon investigation on Monday they said the debit order went off because I reactivated my subscription last month. Which is complete BS. I asked for proof like a phone conversation or email and ever since then they went dead quite.

I pay monthly by credit card using their online system to process the transaction. At the end of July, the balance due was R0. I contacted them and said that is wrong and I need to pay. They told me to wait. I did and enjoyed the whole of August with free DSTV Premium.

Last week, my balance was the normal R779 (DSTV Premium + access fee)which I paid. So it looks like I am going to get away with the free month. Their billing is always a clusterf$5k. Remove a decoder and add a new one and it takes weeks to fix the overbilling. My household has been warned that DSTV is on borrowed time in our house!

I got debited Tuesday morning with R1000. I cancelled my DSTV account 2 years ago, because it was not value for money.
So.
Phoned bank to reverse charge: Sorted, thanks StandardBank!
Phoned MC to find out what is up: I apparently owed them money when I cancelled. When their new system came online, it reactivated my subscription, and issued a debit order for the outstanding amount+2 months rental+ activation fee... So the agent claims. I asked for a statement that reflects this money owed(I was on debit order, how is it possible???). Never received it.

Logged into DSTV selfservice, saw that I had a credit balance, and they actually owe me money!

Useless! Will never use their products again!
