Netflix cracking down on VPN, proxy, and unblocker users

I think this is a old article I remember reading this last year

Yip, this article gets recycled once a year around about this time. I suspect if they were able to do this they would have already. The fact that they haven't got it right yet indicates that it's much more difficult than it seems.

I'm sure they're able to do it, but do they really want to? I'm not so sure they do.

Maybe now that Netflix is legally available in South Africa they can risk blocking Unotelly, etc without losing money from people cancelling their subscriptions.

They can stop most people in seeing which country's credit card is used to subscribe. This is just a statement to make Afpers happy to what they want to know, but nothing will be done.

Seems they trying hard to block their legacy system :D

SA is merely a speck in their universe. Just one of what 130 new countries that launched recently?

If I was them I'd secretly admit that services like unotelly will keep people using Netflix while they bolster their local offerings.

The problem is that previously they never made an official statement about it, and it was just sites reporting that a few VPN-type providers were having issues. This time they've made an official statement with a time line. I don't think it's just an empty threat.

Until SA has access to the full content library (if ever), we should NOT be charged the same as the US.

Nobody has access to the full content library unless they use an unblocking service.

The irony is that blocking Unotelly and similar services is going to cause a huge spike in torrent piracy. It's just going to push people back to pirating their favourite shows and movies if they can no longer get it on Netflix.

Think this is just an official line, if the revenue share anything like Youtube Red then distributers secretly won't mind either because more views = more money for them

I only just signed a few days ago and already got onto the US version as the SA one is a waste of time. If they do by some miracle block unotelly etc. I will be cancelling my subscription and go back to torrents.
