Netflix cracking down on VPN, proxy, and unblocker users

Can someone please explain how they plan on blocking Unotelly? Are they going to ban their DNS server IP's or what?

It really doesnt make sense for Netflix to do this though, it will only drive customers away :confused:
 
I am sure Netflix is trying to block the unblockers on paper. I am sure there are meetings about it and even people with such responsibility.

However I know how it works in a big organisation: budget would be limited as there are more important things to spend money on, interest by Netflix CEO is minimal as he's worried about market share in 130 countries, technical people are focusing on pressing issues such as uptime and network expansion. Sales and marketing people stand to lose customers.

Net result is an important project that never happens
 
They might, and probably will, be successful at blocking VPN's, but I don't know of a single streaming service that has been successful at blocking DNS-based unblockers like Unotelly. Hulu, for example, has been blocking VPN's for a while now, but have not been successful at blocking Unotelly.
 
In the absence of any viable and cost normal offerings, this is why piracy thrives.
 
If they make the same level of content available in SA, as it is in the US then by all means. But dont expect SA to pay the same as a US subscription and get a fraction of the content.
 
Its not necessarily an "evil Netflix" thing. They are pressured by content holders of licenses around the world. For example in our country exclusive licenses are held with the film corporations for certain content by our useless, half-asleep daylight-robbery satellite TV provider. They would automatically put pressure on Netflix to make sure their users cant access this content since its not in their best business interest.

Netflix may or may not do something about it physically, but they have to at least say so to appease the creators of the untested, buggy pitiful excuses for satellite decoders that hold so many licenses in this country... ;)
 
business must be really good, for them to turn away money like that.
if they cut me off, i am unlikely to subscribe to the local service anytime soon, and just find other ways to get content, with all the other options available.
between something like putlocker and shush there is more than enough content available to view, for my very limited available TV time.
i just like the ease of use of NF, and none of those pesky ads to close all the time... but if they really want to push subscribers away, its getting easier by the day to 'take your sh#t and go" :)
 
On 4x4 Community there are people reporting that their US Netflix reverted to SA content.

Yep, i agree. The SA library is tiny fraction of the US Library. So we are not only paying the same as the americans, but in $ too. It would be blatantly unfair of Netflix to expect SA to pay a premium for a 10th of the content.

So yea, if i lose access to the US library, immediate cancel and back to Usenet/Torrents . I have dropped my Usenet usage dramatically since i got Netflix, so i guess everyone is going to lose with this (except me, the filthy pirate).

My service is on and off tonight, switching between US and ZA content. I'm using unblock-us. I contacted their support about it. There's lots of Twitter activity and complaints to them tonight so it looks like I'm not the only one.
 
looking at some other sites from around the world about this issue, it seems everywhere people feel the same as us - it BS that we pay 'more' for less (cost per catalogue size) and even more so... if they block me, they will loose me as a subscriber, i wont be subscribing to the local service... so they loose the revenue.
i would venture a guess that us geo-dodgers accross the world make up quite a sizeable portion of their subscribers, no?
still, if they really want to block non US'ers from accessing the US account, they could just check the subscribers' credit card instead of trying to (futile) block VPN access.
still... willingly pushing away paying customers...

Was same for me last night. I cant see how some people cant all of a sudden not see US content, and others still can. We all use the same DNS to access US NF, so if they block that, it will be blocked for all.

Then these people should probably update their IP with Unotelly et al. Now that we have a local Netflix it will probably default to that when there's any sort of error with Unotelly including an outdated IP address.
