Ayahuasca retreats

Can anyone here recommend ayahuasca or other DMT-based weekend retreats? I know they surround it with a lot of hippy crap but I'm curious to try it.

I'm not sure I want to do it anywhere but the amazon. I watched a documentary about it and it was shot with these guys. So...when I do it...I'll seriously be considering them:

That said, I'd be curious to find out about possible DMT retreats -if there are such places - in SA.

By DMT retreat, you must mean ayahuasca ceremonies? They have them infrequently in Cape Town.
I'd recommend reading this article first: http://www.marieclaire.co.za/hot-topics/power-trip-new-non-illegal-drug-ayahuasca - it's a pretty good, objective and non-biased account...

I've "researched" ayahuasca for close to two years now...and well aware of the do's and don't's. I'm still pretty much set on doing it the "proper" way -in the amazon - but it's good to get as much information as possible. (Haven't read that article yet, but will, thanks.)

I was just using the previous poster's term "DMT retreat," hoping that it was exactly what the name infers. (Similar setup to going through an ayahuasca ceremony, but with DMT instead. This is why I specifically asked and used the same term :) )

Ok, follow you.

DMT is the active alkaloid in ayahuasca (combination of 2 plants) - it only has oral bio availability when combined with an MAOI, and has a half-life of several hours when taken this way - as you've most likely experienced from your "research" :P

DMT in it's pure form, as a freebase, has a very short half-life. The experience from shoot-out-of-a-cannon to what-the-hell-just-happened is about 15mins - essentially the entire ayahuasca experience condensed into a quarter hour.

I think there may be differences in legality as well - I know for certain DMT, freebase or fumarate, is illegal in RSA. Ayahusaca, or the plants used in the brew, is far more grey.
