Hi,

I have noticed this question has been asked quite a few times, so i thought a fresh thread giving the explanation would be in order.

How to: Telkom Mega100wr2 - halbridge

Create quickstart

1. Delete the existing quickstart profile as well any other connections on the router.
2. Apply, Save the settings and reboot the router.
3. When it starts up again (after logging in), it will start you through the 'quickstart wizard'.
4. Click on advanced tab (ie Do not follow the wizard).
5. WAN --> New Connection.
6. Name the connection quickstart.. I found through experience that the router seems to need a quickstart profile.
7. Set VPI and VCI as 8 and 35 respectively. Enter login details. Set as default gateway.

Everything else you can leave.

8. Apply, Save Settings.

Create Bridge Connection

9. WAN --> New Connection
10. Give the connection a name. Since it is the local one I called mine local.
11. Set Type as bridge.
12. VPI and VCI as 0 and 0 respectively <---------- this is where everybody goes wrong. (To get past the "Check PVC Errors" problem when entering 0 and 0, set vpi to 8 and vci to 35. Click Apply. Since the numbers are the same as quickstarts, the router will revert back to 0 and 0 when you click apply. It will throw out an error, but just ignore it, when you log back into the router the numbers will be 0 and 0, and your half bridge will work fine.)

Everything else you can leave.
12. Apply. Save Settings.

For good measure, reboot the router.

Hope this works for you as it has worked for me.

P.s. to save time a just altered one of milomak's posts. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=1098351&postcount=52

So it is possible to use Route Sentry in Vista with the Mega 100 they give out for free with the SIO's?

Or have I confused the modems up?

Yes, it should work. I haven't tried it with vista yet, but it works perfectly with xp.

Disable Firewall on WR100

Does someone know how to disable the Firewall setting on this router? I have under WAN settings un-clicked the Firewall setting, but after saving it, going back into Basic setting it still shows Firewall enabled. I need to switch it off becuase it looks like it blocks my SIP client application.

jak3, would you mind trying Route Sentry in Vista with the modem and see if it works.

Also does the modem support port forwarding? :P

rather than switching off the firewall have you tried forwarding the port your sip app uses? tbh not knowing what a sip application is i don't even know whether the advice is in the ball park but a lot can be attributed to ports not being forwarded.

Session Initiation Protocol - Signaling protocol used for Voice over IP (VOIP).

Sure,

I'll give routesentry/vista a go some time today.

Yes, the modem does support port forwarding.

Thanks, will help me out A LOT as im hoping on getting my ADSL today or tmw. So then if this router does work with Route Sentry in Vista at least I know which router to ask for, for when I go and collect my router. :D

Also is there a difference between the mega100WR and the mega100WR2 or are they the same router just named differently?

I did not get a choice of modem, It all depends on if they have stock or not.

I think the "AZTME1..." is the WR(1) and the "AZTME2..." is the WR2. You will probably get the Mega WR2 from telkom, I dont think they have the WR(1) anymore though.

Hmm, well if they dont have stock then ill try find out which other branches have stock and try go there.

if they refuse to give me the Mega100WR2 then ill throw a fit untill htye give it to me. lol

I hope they do have the Mega100WR2 in stock and I have no problems getting it and using it.etc :D

good news

hi,

I had some free time so i thought i find out for you sooner rather than later.

After installing routesentry onto a vista laptop it kept routing all the traffic via the local account, rather than splitting it.

It turns out in another thread that danh had the fix. After following his instrunctions, its working perfectly.

Go to:
=> Network Sharing Center(icon in system tray)
=> manage network connections
=> right click on dialup pppoe connection you have just made and click properties
=> Networking
=> TCP/IPv4
=> properties
=> advanced
=> "uncheck" use default gateway on remote network
=> OK
=> OK
=> OK

Then install RouteSentry v0.05 Vista beta2

Once installed,

=> Right click on the RouteSentry icon and run in administrator mode.
=> Select your local connection and select your international connection
=> Check all the boxes on the 1st page
=> Click Set up routes now

The Log should have:

Creating routing table
Finished creating routing table

with no errors

Then minimize to system tray, dont close.

phew, I you gave me quite a scare there.
For a moment I thought it wasnt going to work and ill have to start looking for another Telkom router which works with Route Sentry.

Thanks a lot for testing it for me. I really appreciate it. Now I am not worried about getting the router and having problems with it and route sentry on vista. :D

Hi,

Create Bridge Connection

9. WAN --> New Connection
10. Give the connection a name. Since it is the local one I called mine local. This is ppp1.
11. Set PVC to 0:0. <---------- this is where everybody goes wrong.
12. Set Type as bridge.
Everything else you can leave.
12. Apply. Save Settings.

Thanks but I cannot understand how you set the PVC to 0:0 as there is no option on the router. Also, what is ppp1?

You need to create two seperate connections. One is a standard account type which the router will dial on its own, and a second bridge connection, which your computer will use as a tunnel (or tube :) ), which it will use to dial its own connection through.

I've changed the original post to make the pvc stuff clearer. Just follow it step by step.

Here it is:

Create quickstart (first connection fill in your international account details)

1. Delete the existing quickstart profile as well any other connections on the router.
2. Apply, Save the settings and reboot the router.
3. When it starts up again (after logging in), it will start you through the 'quickstart wizard'.
4. Click on advanced tab (ie Do not follow the wizard).
5. WAN --> New Connection.
6. Name the connection quickstart.. I found through experience that the router seems to need a quickstart profile.
7. Set VPI and VCI as 8 and 35 respectively. Enter login details. Set as default gateway.

Everything else you can leave.

8. Apply, Save Settings.

Create Bridge Connection (Second bridge type connection)

9. WAN --> New Connection
10. Give the connection a name. Since it is the local one I called mine local. This is ppp1.
11. VPI and VCI as 0 and 0 respectively <---------- this is where everybody goes wrong.
12. Set Type as bridge.
Everything else you can leave.
12. Apply. Save Settings.
