Telkom fixed-line customers are leaving fast

Well when they take more than a month to repair an ADSL line that is used for running a business, it is easy to see why.

But, my line was off this whole weekend. I logged a fault and it was repaired yesterday already. Not everyone has a bad experience with them.

I suspect a lot of people will jump ship once they have fibre. I mean, why wouldn't you?

Their service has fallen off a cliff for me lately!

Been very happy with them for a very long time but when they bad, they really shocking!!

Yes, I'm days away from going live on fibre. Very little reason to stick around.

Recently got a 20gb freeme package for the SO. Reception is an absolute disgrace on TM. Her phone is permanently set to MTN now. Much better but just another indictment on Telkom.

I logged a fault. It took them a month to fix said fault. Like I said, when this happened to me, it's easy to see why they are losing subscribers.

Asked them about fibre, they said MAYBE next year :|

This article does not give the real reason for the decline other than to re-hash old articles:
Telkom previously said the decline was caused by many factors, including competition from mobile services, copper theft, and tough economic conditions.

So what is the real reason?

What is Telkom's strategy? It's not a mystery... It has been the same for quite a while already. Move unprofitable copper cable customers off the fixed line network and onto a wireless service using Telkom Mobile as the vehicle. Then terminate the exchanges in the least profitable areas. Maintain the average copper exchanges and convert them gradually to offer VDSL services. Target the high income areas for conversion from copper to fibre... simple.

As soon as their Openserve chums get around to connect my fibre, I am also gone. Been paying for a line bundled with ADSL for 5 years too long.

This.

Some of these customer didn't leave Telkom, they just changed (forced and volunteer) from Fixed to Mobile.

Misleading header, Telkom is moving clients from copper to fiber end of story.

Just cancelled my copper, all fibre now (but not Telkom).

I might have kept a low speed ADSL service as a backup, if it wasn't for the Telkom compulsory phone line fee.

(Backup because my fibre is not 100% reliable).

In short- Telkom doesn't care.
I live in an area where I enjoy relatively good ADSL. What do I do now if they want to migrate me to a wireless solution- It will cost more, the signal is crap, and it just won't cut it.

I am a happy Telkom customer and have been so for more than 40 years.
I like my fixed line telephone service!
I have never understood why someone would not make use of the fixed line service if they also have an ADSL service.

But when technology moves on in my area, I will have no choice in the matter I suppose, BUT I would expect Telkom to provide me with a VoIP replacement for my current fixed line service.

Line has been down since the storm last week ... it's still down today (and the main reason why my wife punts DSTV over streaming services)

Exactly. I waited for 23 days for them to fix a fault that affected everyone on the exchange.

Your scenario is the exception, rather than the rule.

Our Fibre network in our complex has been completed for over a month now, but still not connected. Anyone knows how long this takes?
