Don't Skype me - How Microsoft turned consumers against its software

Plug in your webcam
let skype pick it up
look up contact
make voice or video call

yeah, hella difficult to use :erm:

Incoming call rings on my phone and not my PC, I want to use my PC dammit.

Can't search the message log.

Can't open chats in different windows.

New version is a POS.

Skype was a real stuff up. It could have been immensely popular had it been a snappy messaging platform for text, voice and video many years ago. Possibly one of the most popular IM clients in the world.

Except when it doesn't work and your only real option is to reinstall because settings are well hidden or non-existent.

Not the biggest hassle in the world, but why? You used to be able to sort out audio and video problems pretty quickly.

Did they remove that "pop out conversation" option to move the chat to it's own window?

It's been Microsoft'd. (meaning messed up to follow their latest braindead UI fad)

Still have my account from around 2004... It is used only occasionally to request support from my German colleague, but he (like me) wishes to ditch this abomination.

It's amazing to me that this recent update to Skype is so bad.

Like, it is way worse than the old one. Sometimes messages just refuse to send until you restart. Sometimes group calls don't ring on your end. In other words, a group call starts, I am invited, but I don't get notified. I then see the option to join the call.

The interface is way worse than it was.

I don't know how they broke it so badly.

Used to love Skype but it has fallen from grace for me. Skype-to-landline/mobile calls have terrible quality as well.

We are a small company and the techies use Skype mostly for chats and group chats. Previously used Google Talk, which was more lean and mean (despite not having group chat).
So I hope Skype is also not on the downhill.
