Pay-as-you go, literally

Brothers Arno and Wilter du Toit are on the verge of changing the way we use our cellphones. They have developed a system that allows for easy payment for a range of services, from movie tickets to municipal bills and other accounts.

Nice article there.

I'd personally kill to have a service like this. Being able to use your cellphone as a virtual debit card would be awesome! Also nice to see Mvela backing this initiative.

What we need is a means of making payment without the use of a cellphone OR any cards whatsoever.......just simply type a number or something into a terminal and the transaction is complete. No more wallets to carry around.

Like connecting something to a thumbprint or voice recording or something. You 'swipe' your thumb over the reader and then enter your PIN and your good to go....

Think we are still quite a long way from something like that just yet though.

RF implants could be used as identifiers. They throw a code at a receiver and you just select what you want from a console. Alternatively, a user entered code could also be required, thus demotivating criminals from removing said RF implant in a forceful manner, in order to gain access to funds.

Japan does this already

I read some that you pay for your fare on the tokyo subway with you cell phone. Maybe the phone has RFID. Not sure

The japs are way ahead of everyone in this field..

I THINK its NTT DoCoMo that have a system where you can load cash onto your cell phone(small amount) and use it to pay for things all over the place.

ever the more reason for the crims to steal your phone, would be interesting to see how they get around that problem
