I have heard -- from the banana leaves -- that these IP's are on the NSA monitoring list :confused:

Now that NAT is gone will you be providing a Windows firewall and access control FAQ :)

Does this have anything to do with the SA SPOOK legislation that says that ALL telecomms providers must give the SA "Intelligence" services full and unhindered and constant access to their networks :confused::mad:

1.)

NAT -- Network Address Translation

Far as I understand what this does is translate a private IP address on the LAN to a public IP address out on the Internet.
As such it is in a sense part of the first line defence against threats as private IP addresses are not routable ( or should not be ) on the Internet.

With NAT taken away protection will have to put more emphasis on other things -- such as firewalls and access control.

How about one of those nice network organogram things -- like you do in MS VISIO -- showing how all the network works from a subsciber point of view. With "My-Computer" with an IP address -- and then a sort of tracert organogram into the VC network showing how it all works with all the different Servers protocols and IP addresses and security features ( so WE can actually see how WE are being protected ).

Why? I think its better to have a forum rep that's prepared to talk about things and push the limits a bit rather than be a drone that just repeats company policy.
 
I agree with the talking about things, but it's just plain bad publicity for Vodacom to have someone represent them who isn't even an employee having a go at forumites...

V3G isn't an employee? Maybe it depends on the person, it certainly hasn't put me off. A forum is supposed to be informal.

The tone of the response and the general thread was pretty light hearted and all in jest IMO. I would hardly call it: "having a go" :confused:
 
He was replying in the same style in which MidnightWizard posted. And I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the tone of his reply. He wasn't having a go, and he even stuck a smiley there.

I think V3G's sense of humour is a pre-requisite for dealing with the hot-under-the-collar but often misinformed attacks he has to put up with here.

And if you read his posts it's obvious that he is an employee.

We can definitely do those (and probably should), but it won't be from me. Just not my nature.

I, for one, would not mind getting the average of 18 hours per day I spend here back.

Just a comment; at 8K posts, one would assume you understand the use of emoticons and how to read them as part of a sentence? ;)

BTW, don't you find it ironic that customers complain that companies won't treat them as individuals but just as numbers, but then they expect the companies NOT to be populated by humans?

Granted that was a funny post, all it says is that it doesn't help to be sarcastic or take cheap shots if someone is asking a genuine question or voicing their opinion (which they are entitled to). Please note - this is NOT a personal attack on anyone, it's an opinion and a suggestion, i.e. use it, don't use it! And indeed it cannot be a personal attack as Vodacom3G represents the company Vodacom and not himself.

1) There are those who would argue in favour of point 1 so don't feel alone - and I'm just stating the obvious, not asking you to do that. Feel free to do what you think best for yourself.

2) Sarcasm is obviously a weakness of yours

3) Companies that talk down to their paying clients are pathetic imo and deserve to be overlooked when that contract comes up for renewal. Just remember that you represent Vodacom while in here, not yourself.

No need to be PC, just try not to be drawn into personal slinging matches.

If you want a customer care drone email customercare @ vodacom .co.za ;) This isn't that type of environment and most people here seem to prefer it that way.
 
Vodacom3G, thanks boet for everything.

I don't deal with you at all, but I for one appreciate the amount of time etc you give MyBB users, especially the Vodacom people and their queries.
