Haven't heard of half of those O.o Only ones I recognise are Jump, BidorBuy, Gumtree and Kalahari.net... What about my beloved Take2? :(

It's about time! Although, my parents still trek to the post office/local Pick 'n Pay/ATM to do their banking and pay their bills :)

I have to admit that I love hearing about people in our country becoming more internet aware! :D Haha! There's still hope yet! :)

There will be no boom. The majority of South Africans are simply trying to afford transport and food...The telcos are simply too greedy for there ever to be widespread usage of the Internet...

We need better and more importantly - cheaper - services from neotel, telkom etc before we can have a "boom". The only reason that there will be a boom so far is the world cup 2010 (rich tourists who have to have internet no matter the cost...), but I think advertising will get a bigger boom during that period.
 
i rate it should boooooom.. atleast we are actually gonna get some bandwidth in RSA.. YAY!!!

I'm sure if you go and have a look at the traffic details you will find most of the traffic is in business hours. That simply means broadband is still to expensive for home users - and thus employees "abuse" their employers internet connection.

Yeah, and the idiots stole my Telkom LINE.. So much for an internet boom. Those idiots need to stop smoking boom and fix the broken cables.
This article heading is like saying "Rise in Traffic?" when the petrol price has doubled. Same thing... makes no sense. Telkom, you idiots, growth comes when you FIX and EXPAND - not when you let your infrastructure go without any intention to fix it.
 
Seriously thought someone with explosives mistook a telkom exchange for an ATM :p
 
talking of an inet boom, as part owner of www.thinkmoney.co.za - a South African financial comparison website, it only makes sense to use the online arena to trade, its cheaper, can be done from anywhere and is more comfortable (ie @ home) than in the physical realm.
 
I must say, judging from this article there are good times ahead for online businesses. As mentioned numerous times in this thread expensive connectivity is a huge drawback for us. Bit this too will pass.

I guess it is now the time to start developing quality online businesses - you might be able to sell it for big money in the near future...
