DSTV HDTV details

can't we get mnet HD only? ie a subscription package with only the one HD channel?

So I am assuming that of these "THREE VIEWING ENVIRONMENTS!", only one will actually be able to broadcast HD content, right?

Boy now I am very impatient, I want mine now, I ordered it a week ago already!

I have been running a old 17year old MNet decoder and it just looks crap on my new LG HDCP LCD.

I saw the HD decoder, it has been on the ISER price list for a little while now. You can use it as a standalone decoder AFAIK, it is PVR, but it can only watch a channel and record another, not the 3 channel way the old one used to.

The HD PVR has 4 inputs, 1 is for viewing, 2 and 3 are for background recording and the 4th is for EPG data and VOD downloads.

Edit: VOD = Video on demand

Are there any special requirements wrt cables etc or can we just swap out our old PVR and replace it with the new HDPVR?

Do we also know about the recoring time? Did they put in bigger HDrives to accomodate the HD recording?

I also take it they will nolonger be selling the std PVR?

"HD television will bring with it detail, vividness and clarity of picture never seen before on our television screens.”

Only because you money grabbing vaks dished up ***** quality for the brain dead Joe soap to lap up.

Am I the only one who finds the term "viewing environments" ridiculous?

waaaaaahaaaaa!!!
Well atleast i know i'm not gonna afford it anytime soon :P

According to that you don't even need to swop out the old 1, you can use them together.
OLD PVR: 2 Watch 1 Record, 3 Tuners, 80Hrs
NEW PVR: 2 Record 1 Watch, HD

F@ck... They are installing my DSTV today, with the normal decoder... should i wait? I guess it's not that hard, the normal decoder costs like R400 bucks, i'm willing to lose that and get the new HD one when it's released...
