I thoroughly enjoyed the advert and am very glad that the complaint got dismissed ;)

I couldn't believe it when I read that people even considered complaining about such a petty thing. I would hate for them to go overseas and see the kind of adverts that are run over there.
 
The ASA is just another beaurocratic, regulatory, mischievous organization that ought to be done away with. They pretend to act as a self-regulatory entity, but in reality, are just the opposite. Self-regulation does not refer to the establishment of an organization to control all the companies within a given industry. It means that if left alone, companies will regulate themselves to meet the needs of a market. The ASA, is in essence, merely an extension of government control.

What happened to Freedom of Expression in the Bill of Rights? Companies should be able to advertise however they see fit. If you don't like their adverts, don't buy their products.
The ASA claims to serve some 'public interest'. If Vodacom felt the public wouldn't be accepting of their advertisement, why on earth would they publish it in the first place? It would only serve to hurt their business.
The law does not exist to restrict emotional pain. It exists to uphold individual rights. Rights that can only be infringed upon through the use of coercion.

It is a cool ad indeed. Funniest part for me is when the big chief asks the poor schmuck running next to his car what the weather is like – and he answers ‘boiling’ :D
 
yeah agreed great ad......that meerkat they used for previous ads (please tell me they never use it again) seriously peeved me.
 
What does it say about those 2 if they are the only 2 in the country that dont like the advert? They are morons.

Slighlty disagree. Firstly they ruled in favour of all you just said, but they are there to protect you from areas of hate speech and to a point of where you could really get ripped off by just being a consumer.

This is an article not to get disturbed or worried or stressed about. Its just a comment on a silly complaint from 2 people which the ASA said was not worth looking further into and correctly so.

I'm really surprised the complaints did not originate from a black consciousness group, like the one that complained about the Toyota Fortuner ad.

Whether they ruled in favour of Vodacom or not, is not the point. They needn't be ruling at all. I, nor anyone else, need protection from hate speech or any other kind of speech. Freedom of speech entails having the right to say whatever you want, whenever you want, freely. Even if what someone says is seen to be hateful or immoral. So long as the other side is given the same freedom to express their views openly and neither side attempts to impose their views upon others through force, there is no problem.
What do you think the result would be if Vodacom or any other company released an advert that had hate speech? Do you think it would work in their favour?

You say that the ASA are able to protect customers from getting ripped off. How so?

Agreed, I still can't understand why comparative advertising is banned either.
