Yes, I know that regular readers of this forum will know that I am not the world biggest Apple fan. And no, I am not drunk nor crazy, but I think that it is time people give credit where it is due.

Whether you love the Iphone or hate it - the truth is that it has done the mobile industry the world of good. For one, it showed that user interfaces can be made more people friendly. Yes, it lacks many feature and is technically not as good as other phones. But its biggest claim to fame, the user interface, is done better than anywhere else (at this stage).

If you love the iPhone, well then you do not have to read on, if you hate it (as I do) then just keep the following in mind :
  • It got Nokia to make a copy of it.
  • Samsung also made their version of it.
  • Newer phones are pushing for WVGA screens just to stay ahead.
  • Nokia's music service is developing a lot faster since the iPhone.
  • User interfaces are given a serious make over (like Symbian V5 Taco).
  • Feature sets of phones across the market has been spec'ed up in response to the iPhone

So sure, iPhone is over-hyped, over-priced and it lacks in many areas where the big players have had years to develop in, but it is the best competition that the mobile market has seen in years.

Like the CEO of Toyota said at the launch of the Prius, this is not the ultimate solution (a diesel Polo 1.4 has better consumption) BUT it is a step in the right direction and other industry makers will respond (and appreciate) the challenge.

For all the iPhone's short comings, just keep in mind what it is doing for the bigger picture. As for myself, I cannot wait to see what touchscreen phone Nokia comes up with after the 5800 :p

Nice1 even if I have to say so myself. :D

No - I will never own any apple product - but I did see an iPhone in real life and I was pretty impressed. It got me thinking, sure there are many reasons to hate apple and never own any of their products, but if you look at global advances in technology you have to admit they do make for some pretty good competition every now and then.

...Yes and you can brandish light sabres with them and chase the cats! woot!

Sure, sure... :p

No S***

now if only lanceafluff could do the same

I think anyone would be a fool not to admit what the iPhone has done for the mobile industry as a whole.

But people have morals and values and some would not violate it and buy an Apple product :p

More competition is always good for industry however I will not be taking an iPhone. My upgrade is due now and I am just waiting for the Vodacom release of the HTC Touch Pro next week.

Well this explains the **** weather in PE

Finally you got the bigger picture... just like I said to you a while back. "once you see it in real life your mind will change"

We can keep on debating till the cows come home, but the fact is that the Mac OS on the iPhone looks & operates beautifully. And the phone's design to me is just as radical as when the Motorola V3 Razr came onto the market - I'll never ever forget the first time I held a Razr in my hand!

One day when Nokia, Samsung, SonyEriccson & others catch up, I will obviously give them a serious look....but I think that might take a while.

I am not a 'fanboy', just want what look & works best for me.

Yeah, I was impressed and it did get me thinking. But still, I do not want to be associated with the apple crowd so I'll stick to ye olde'school Nokia for now.

I played around with an iPhone in Vodacom on Saturday.. Was very nice :) But cant help thinking, even after playing around with it.. If I had to buy.. I'd go for the Diamond still

I think the novelty of the iPhone last much longer than a Diamond, however i haven't owned a Diamond so i could be wrong..

All i know is the novelty of my iPhone still hasn't worn off after almost a year!
