Neotel NeoFlex voice

But will it work with Asterisk and other Software driven PBXs?

and +3 on the R99 no reason charge.

And if im a small business with no pabx then what? Do i pay a R400 installation charge for collecting the device, taking it to work and plugging it in myself?

they (and any other operator with spectrum) pay for spectrum and base stations. air unfortunately isn't free in za :-(

Never mind ZA, it not free anywhere.

But this sounds interesting. Will be considering this for our office and my wifes small business. Since we have Neotel at home we cut our bill by R200 and doubled our phone calls (multiple 2sec calls to Mobile phones on Telkom are no joke).

I'm interested in this, but...

Let's stop and think about the technology they are using.

Am I right in thinking that the call from the "little box" to neotel will be sip or iax2?

If so, then the "little box" is nothing more than an ATA with a CMDA interface, yes?

gods, another comparison. hasn't everything broadband/telephony-related in south africa jumped the shark by now?

Oh thats lovely, so who out of Neotels 8 customers that have network coverage are going to sign up?

So adding that to my asterisk will entail connecting the POTS port on the "little box" to an FXO port on the asterisk server.

That's an unnecessary expense.

I'll revisit this once the device has an ethernet port and we can access it using SIP or IAX2.

I get really annoyed when certain people on this forum expect everything for free. Free line rental, free air rental, free whatever rental. Can't you think past the trees in your office park or garden and realise there is a massive network operating to give you your dial tone or wireless connection. This uses power, cooling and man hours to operate. There are admin people to pay, support desk and technicians. Equipment has a limited life and must be paid off. Upgrades and expansion cost money and the company needs to make a profit. Even if you don't use your connection, you are consuming resources.

Your "air rental" argument is so narrow minded and just makes you look stupid.

Good point Gaz: I think it is far more constructive to discuss what is a fair price and whether there are savings from Neotel or other providers...hence who provides the best deal. Competition should do the rest of the work for consumers.
